Witcher contracts aren't the same thing.
I'm talking end end end game here where super monsters test the limits of player skill and preparation. Think of optional bosses in Dark Souls.
Doesn't really matter as it stands. The leash system the monsters/enemies have currently will bypass any difficulty unless you make it difficult. If you don't understand what I mean. Enemies can only move about 10-15 feet before they have to go back to their spots. You can sit there and afk burn bandits with igni with this.
These are not ordinary mobs.
These are boss level enemies, with their own distinct arenas and aggro ranges.
The range does suck, but those fights could be put into an enclosed area that you cant leave tell its dead would resolve it(which I know is too much for for them to do so). Its piss poor programming, that's for sure, its just to insure nothing follows you forever. Like I said before, they really got lazy on many parts of the game when it came to smart, logical programming. I guess with the 200+ people they had, hardly any of them where really that smart :)
You can get that experience by seeking out monsters of a significantly higher level than you. Play on Death March, keep Geralt at Level 5 or so and hunt down the level 10-15 Griffins, Wyverns and Basilisks. If you enjoy that, level up to 10 and then look for the level 20+ monsters. They will be pretty tough fights if you keep a level disparity of 10 or more, even if you have good equipment you will get two-shotted by most large monsters.
And then when you're level capped (which is where optional super monsters are supposed to be)?
A level 70 Geralt isn't going to waste time hunting down and killing level 16 griffins.
Has nobody ever heard of the concept of optional super bosses?
This topic isn't about level 40 monsters.
It's about hypothetical level 80 monsters (with the current level cap being 70).
Okay...and?
But why would there be something like this considering reaching even level 40 is something not many will ever do?
Why make expansions when people aren't even going to get out of the starting prologue zone?
