for torso maybe, other pieces not.
However, Fashion > Stats. SO I wear whatever I fancy, sometime I wear nothing like a true nordling.
I do not think that price that a sword costs is the best measure of a good weapon. Relic weapons/armor seem to be more expensive but not always the best. For example the steel sword Tir Tochair (relic) is over 1000 gold but not really the best.
The level of a weapon is directly affects the damage a sword does which is important but there are other factors.
Once you get some decent runestones to put into sword/armor the number of sockets becomes more important.
Throstle
level 15 witcher, fan of Griffin armor.
Light armor goes hand in hand with light attacks, critical chance and critical damage. You'll also find attack and bleed on these items and skills. It gives more protection against elemental attacks than other armors, but less of the other resistances and gives the best stamina regen. (+30% for a full set)
Medium armor goes hand in hand with sign-heavy builds. The armor passive will buff your stamina regen and sign intensity for casting, and it's usually medium armors that are dedicated to buffing 1 sign by a large amount. Griffin school also buffs overall sign intensity. Resistances are average across the board.
Heavy armor goes hand in hand with strong attacks and adrenaline related builds. Building it up and then expending it for a big buff in damage in a form of a very strong heavy hit or sometimes signs. Heavy armor tends to have more resistances to slashing, piercing, blunt and monsters but loses elemental resistance and lowers your stamina regeneration.
Light armor for high critical hit chances coupled with fast attacks
Medium armor for higher stamina regeneration in order to cast a crap ton of signs if you're going for a sign focused build
Heavy armor for straight up melee for dealing and absorbing more damage than the other two
Medium = Balanced
Heavy = High Armor/Crippled Stamina
Pretty sure it says all this in game though.
Depends on your build actually.
-Ursine offers most physical defenses.
-Feline gives attack power boost and gives most elemental dmg resistance.
-Griffin gives sign boost, and is middle of the two.
For swords, i find Ursine the best. Then again, for sign build, Griffin swords would be better.
From there, it really depends on what char build you're running.
Signs/Alch = Griffin Armor.
Physical attack = Feline armor.
Tank = Ursine.
Once you chosen, you also want to pick an armor specialization to improve your stats.
For swords, it really doesn't matter. You can pick witcher swords, but a lot of relics are actually as good as the witcher swords or even better. So it's up to you if you want to improve your stats (signs, attack power, hp).
