This or an MMO?
I've been looking to get into an RPG for awhile now but I can't figure out which one. I kind of want to play with other people even though I don't like PvP. Also I don't want to pay a monthly subscription. I've been thinking about Tera, Star Wars the Old Republic, or Guild Wars 2. But now I see this and it looks amazing. What are your thoughts? Better than a MMO? Will I miss not being able to quest with people?

Single player RPGs are typically nothing like MMORPGs, which is generally a good thing. MMOs are built to drag out game play and progression as much as possible to keep you playing and spending, where as a game like this or your average JRPG are built around progressing the story at your own pace.

EDIT: Taking a look at your profile I see you have a few hours in Borderlands 2 and Bastion which are both RPGs so if you hated that style of story delivery, this game is likely not for you.

I can't remember the last time I played an open world single player RPG. Is there really a lot to do, or is it mainly quest after quest to follow a story? I see there is a card game and character relationship building, that seems really fun.

I played so many MMORPGs, both free ones and those with monthly subscription... for gameplay, story, and graphics... Witcher 3 definitely beats most MMORPGs if not all... but back to your question... ask yourself this....

"Do you like playing with people more or being immersed in gameplay and story playing solo?"

If you like playing with other people more, then MMORPGs... if not.. then Witcher 3 or any other good RPG like it.

I play a lot of Hearthstone so I think I'm fine with the single player side of it. I think it's mostly, I want more than just a story. I want to be able to hang out in the world and feel like I'm living it. Being able to do side things that have nothing to do with the story. Is that in this game?

About 75% of the game's content is side stuff. The main story itself is by no means small though, there is just that much to do.

I think the open world factor will have me like this a little more than Bastion, and I played so much of the first borderlands on xbox 360 that I felt burnt out trying to play the second one haha.

But thank yall for the input, I'll probably sleep on it. I'm leaning towards trying it out though. I think $60 is a lot but then I think about it and I've put about $1000 in hearthstone and league of legends haha

Hard to say. I have played MMOs for many years, but since most of my old friends left the genre, and I play mostly alone, I feel less and less motivated to play MMOs. Wasn't an easy transition, as it felt weird to go from the "MMO feel" (world full of other players) to single player games.
However, games like Skyrim, GTAV, and the Witcher games made that step easy. This game has LOTS of things to do. RB said its mostly side stuff... these are witcher contracts (actual witcher work), treasure hunts, secondary quests (which often have interesting storylines) and pure exploration of landmarks (where you might find invaded towns, monster nests etc).

From playing almost only MMOs (WOW, Lotro, SWTOR, TESO, DCUO, AOC, and it all began with UO back then for me), I have switched to mostly singleplayer games, and this one, along with some of the AC- and Arkham-titles, GTA V, Skyrim and the previous Witcher-titles has become my new home I guess. Have played witcher 3 for almost 40 hrs, and am enjoying the heck out of it, deeply immersed in the game world and story, and I feel like I already got my money's worth... and haven't even seen the majority of the gameworld or story yet =)
So if you ask me, I'd say go for this, as I also think it's a game you should have at least tried once. However, if you do LOVE to play with others, coordinate with a team, etc., you might miss that in such a singleplayer game. However, you can ofc return to MMOs after trying this, whether you "finish" it or not =)

I understand where you're coming from. I played the first Guild Wars way way back in the day and LOVED playing with my guild. Then I started playing League of Legends when it first came out and hated playing with others. After that took over my life for a couple years I switched to Don't Starve and Hearthstone. Honestly I wish there were more games like Puzzle Pirates but not many people have played that. But I like just living in the world, escape from the real world haha.

The side stuff you're talking about (treasure hunts, contracts and exploration) sound fantastic. You're right, its probably worth a try :thumb:

You want to play with other people? The Witcher 3 is totally single player game. Either MMO or get a cross-breed game like Dark Souls I/II or Bloodborne for the unique multiplayer interaction and start hauling ass when you get invaded.

This is a great story, I do like the fighting though like most open world games the main quest isn't a great as it could be. The give you something that seems to time sensitive but for the most part the world waits for you, so I would say at good or better story wise as Morriwnd and that is still pretty good. Though almost every side quest you pick up has a great story to it, and the game doesn't pull punches when you make a decision. People will die in this game, sometimes you have to kill them after getting to know them to stop them from doing something horrible, or something you decide will cost a village full of folk their lives.

Though if your goal is to play along other people I have only played Terra and Guild Wars 2 of the ones you have listed and I would say Guild Wars 2, I at least felt more drawn into the game than I did Terra, though I loved Guild Wars so that proably has a lot to do with it. The story in Guild Wars 2 is a bit stronger I think than Terra, but that might be since it has a more personal element to it.

Oh wow so the decisions you make in this game actually make a BIG impact. That's great. I know some game it really don't matter what you say it just slightly alters everything

Forget the MMO or this game issue sometimes things come along and truly take you by surprise .
This game has done that to me I have the two others and liked them but I have ALWAYS like Bioware games far more .
Forget the Graphic's debate forget any silly troll gripes about issue 's that matter not ,I have been playing games for over 40 years and this a truly great gaming experience do not rush through it just enjoy one of the best games I have ever played and I only got it because a trustworthy site was selling keys at half price for GOG.
Just my humble opinion .
