Money is pretty useless...
By level 5 money became a non-issue and here I sit at level 16 with 28,000 crowns on me and another probably 6,000 in materials in my saddlebags. I've never even gambled once. So what do you do with all this junk? Even Skyrim had more uses for money then this game. I literally cannot find anything to waste money on. The vendors never have any patterns, useless or not. They never sell better swords or armor then what I'm wearing.. the most I've ever had to buy was a couple dozen-gold-items off a herbalist every now and then and that's about the extent of my spending. You don't even need to spend money on repairs with how often you replace gear and the dozens of repair kits in 4 different denominations that you find in every other crate.

For the first ten levels or so, I spent all of my money on repairs.

Now I'm sitting at 1500 gold at level 12, just entering Novigrad. Where are you guys finding so much money, and what difficulty are you playing on?

... I don't think I've ever needed to pay someone to repair my gear unless I was just doing it to give the vendor a bit more money to sell more junk to them. You should have literally hundreds of repair kits from looting crates.

how the hell are you guys getting all this money? I'm level 5 and can't afford f'n repairs =P doing all the question marks and quests i can find.

Loot everything, sell everything, witcher millionaire.

I've picked up 3 weapon repairs kits in 35 hours and I loot everything I see. Luck of the draw?

meanwhile...im lvl 7 and broke...

Assuming you're playing on a harder difficulty, since otherwise it wouldn't make any sense you're broke, here are a few tips:

  • Use the perk "Sun and Star" - the granted health regen saves you a lot of food. Thanks to that I didn't have to buy food just once.
  • Make sure to kill chickens, goats and wolves whenever you encounter them = free food.
  • Loot everything you find. You can either sell it or use it for crafting later, hence saving you money by not having to purchase the mats from vendors.
  • Get the potion swallow asap. Free health generation while it's rechargeable (meditation).
  • Look out for smiths that sell the repair kit recipe. Being able to craft them yourself saves money too.
  • Always negotiate your reward with the respective npc for Hexer tasks. You almost always get a little bit more out of it by doing so.

That's all I can think of atm. Hopefully, it helps you out. :D:

Edit: Btw, Level 18 now, 38,000 crowns. Still haven't found a damn thing to spend them on. I wish I could just chuck it into the streets like Altair at this point.

I bought 15 potions that reset skill points for 1k a pop and now i'm at 30k crowns. I kinda get your point about having no ways of spending the money, yet it doesn't really bother me. It feels good running around with a full purse. :D:

Don'tcha love how those potions pop up in the quick use button after you use your last food item? Every time I eat my last Ham sandwich does it put the 40 honey I'm carrying in that slot instead? The 20 water jugs? How about the 15 chicken sandwiches? Nope, it always defaults to the Respec Potion. Enjoy accidently drinking that in combat.

I did all those things though :(

what really gets me is we have very limited storage space.

Luckily that never happened so far. On the other hand I'm mostly using swallow over food, since I have the superior one with 5 charges.

Are you guys skipping on making the Witcher gear sets and getting a bunch of cash from Dimeritium? It seems like the way to go if you want to be super rich. After Mastercrafting all that crap on my first playthrough it seems like it isn't worth it unless you're going for a focused build based on the gear bonuses. I'd rather have all the money, tbh.

Nah, I just crafted the master griffin gear set and rarely used something else besides Hexer gear in general. The thing is, since I'm looting like crazy I didn't have to buy any mats and even have plenty left.

The cat gear set looks really good too. Mb im gonna use it for my second play through.

You only need to make the set like 4 times over the course of the entire game and you get to sell literally every weapon and armor you find since it's all worse then the witcher stuff and besides the crafting costs of actually forging the item I didn't need to purchase a single thing all the way up to mastercraft for the ursine stuff. I have a minimum of about 20 of every crafting material in the game on me just from looting junk, I try to sell it if its goes over 20, I could probably sell more but I honestly don't care enough

Why would I need to finish the game before complaining? Is there some magical moment near the end were Geralt is going to need to have 50,000 crowns on hand to pay for Ciri's wedding or something for the best ending? I highly doubt it, if anything the further in the game I go the less valuble money has gotten.

Because you've only experienced a small fraction of the game and yet you're acting like you know it inside out. Is spending money the only high point in this game? Your criticism is ultimately pointless since money, and it's uses in game are just one of many gameplay elements. If you don't find money that useful, then don't bother accumulating so much. It is an entirely optional part of the game.

Do the quests, enjoy the combat and story and have fun. This game is still challenging with or without the monetary system.

yeah, thats like saying gta 4 was a bad game because you had more money than you knew what to do with

level 16, around 12k on death march difficulty.

I think respec potions are worth 1000 points and I think I will buy one. Other than that though, I haven't seen a real desperate need for money outside a respec potion or maybe repairing your armor but you can find weapon/armor repair or generally find your next armor/weapon upgrade even on death march difficulty before needing to repair something.

Even if you needed to repair, and had no kits to use, its pretty cheap to craft them compared to using a blacksmiths repair option.

Maybe the lack of vendors having any good gear to buy its a major factor in this. I seem to find ALL of my stuff, especially when theres treasure hunt quests. It makes buying stuff other than gwent cards and crafting materials pointless.

I find it funny that pointing out any flaw of the game equals to condemning it being a bad game. A flaw is a flaw no matter how you dress it up, and nowhere in the OP or subsequent discussion has there ever been mentioning of the game is bad.
That post makes no sense unless your playing on easy.

Not really, a few people actually post on different threads stating that they experience MORE gold loot on Death March.

With useless 28000 crowns. Right.
