SO there is no local map
In dungeons and caves. That blows...

Nope. I discovered that early on, and while it may present a small nuisance at first, it makes sense from a logical standpoint. How would Geralt have detailed cartographic information on every location he visits?

May not make sense . But it sure was convenient. The first 2 WItchers had local maps.

It's not really needed in this one since the dungeons and caves are typically just a few rooms.

Important underground locations *do* have maps. Smaller caves don't.

As a tracker, my experience is that the mind creates a map as it explores...
So in some ways, I can agree with your comment; however, as some games do, once the tracker has explored an area the map is 'available' both literally and figuratively.
Consequently, it is very UNimmersive for me for my amazing Geralt to have to wander repetitively in circles in a small cave simply because I cannot see where I have been in the whole because of limited computer graphics.
And since this is a common function in many good games, including the previous Witcher games.... the absence of the function comes across as poor game planning. A small oversight to be sure! Witcher Wild Hunt is better than better and my most enjoyed version of the game so far.:steamhappy:
