Regenerating Monsters
I'm trying to kill a level 13 Alghoul guarding some treasure. At level 11, it hits for almost 3/4 of my health and it glows red. I can wittle it down over time if I play my cards right but my question is about why certain creatures in this game glow red. I've noticed ghouls even regenerate health when this happens! I also remember the werewolf I fought in a cave as part of a quest was regenerating health at a ridiculous rate, although my friend and I deduced that he was perhaps eating the wolf's bane plants we later found littered around the cave...?

TLDR: Why do some monsters glow red and why do some regenerate health, while others of the same species don't regen?

Isn't wolfsbane a poison? and that's why it's called wolfsbane so I don't imagine
he's eating it to regen health.

Yeah I fought him and just could not kill him (the wolf) as he just regens health
at insane speeds and can't figure out how to stop it. That little botchling thing gave me the same problem except he grows spikes out his arse so I can't even get close to him.

Didn't have curse oils at the time so maybe they help but I don't know how to stop
the health regen.

When it glows red/create spikes, use axii. Problem solved.

People keep saying this and i'm going to disagree with you here... here is the issue!

Axii doesn't cause the spikes to go away immeditaly it causes them to vanish AFTER the stun wears off meaning is a period where you simply cant do anything to them.

My Advice? 3/3 ignite, alt igni stuns them do to catching fire, and just racks up damage like nobodys business(i do have a greater blue mutagen though) it eats alghouls for dinner dealing 3/4 of there life in one blast and i never risk hitting there spikes, toss a tawny owl and you can just spray and forget.

Axii works for me as i dont like to invest points on damage signals since it makes the game a breeze.
Silver bombs work aswell, stop all kind of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ healing+magic.

I tried that tactic, but that bomb sadly works against witcher magic as well, as once inside that sparkly airborne ♥♥♥♥, my quen instantly disappears and I can't cast ♥♥♥♥. In this case that means one less lifeline against a monster that did 3/4 of my health in damage each time it hit me.

Yeah, that wolf's bane theory makes sense. I seem to have this problem many aspects of this game is very vague for an RPG; for instance the grinders and armour benches don't actually tell you HOW MUCH they improve your stuff by; not to mention the red glow some monsters seem to get.

As for the werewolf in the cave; playing on the second hardest difficulty I must've killed him on my third or fourth attempt. I think either my bleeds proc'd and they were basically negating his healing, or I might've used the trap sign and that might've disabled whatever regen he had. At the time I was using the serpentine silver sword.

Is there a definitive source for in-depth Witcher 3 info? I'd like to see more numbers, and maybe some tweaking that covers more than just graphical adjustments and other nonsense; I'd love to be able to extend the time text stays on the action log, for example!

See an enemy that can regen? Pop the anti poison pot into you mouth, then drop a poison bomb on you feet.

Axii is great against them. Just Axii and start hammering away at them and Axii again and do some more hammering away at them... just wait till you have to face that stupid Kattakan was a pain in the ass.

Ugh, that werewolf sidequest... Managed to finally beat him after like 10 tries, I think I might have been a bit underleveled since one hit from it cost 1/5 of my health. If I waited too long between the attacks it would regenerate to full health very fast. Best tactic was to just use igni and use fast attack on him when he was on fire, also spamming bombs and using shield if I was low on health. Oh and the potion that regenerates your stamina is pretty essential I'd say.

Also annoyed that I missed the cursed oil recipe in an earlier quest. (You have to buy it from the witch before finishing the final quest with her)

You'll find the one I'm talking about in the sewers of Novigrad during a certain someone's side quest. It's basically a giant vampire bat that has insane regenerative properties and goes invisible while its regenerating back to full health. I tried fighting it fair but after it went from half health to full health I was like ♥♥♥♥ it and went with a cheesy but effective strategy of chugging a tawny and burning that bastard with my Igni spami.

Deal with Vampire is very easy. Vampire Oil, moon dust, black blood and that thing will die extremely unfunny fast.

ah i already fought that one, right when he wanted to go invisible i hit him with axii, so he went invisible and instantly visible again when he came out of the stun , also had that spinny symbol over his head showing i stunned him so i knew where to hit :D
