Haggling: what's the point?!
Is it just me or is the Negotiation mechanic virtually pointless? It seems if you as anything more than 5% people are like "NOPE", I mean it doesn't bother me that much, just makes me wonder why people put it in the game if its useless. Anyone else find this?, or is my strategy wrong?

Always depends on who youre facing, i had people who didnt go over the start price at all, even putting it 1 higher made them mad, others gave me a nice extra 15% Cut (very rare)

It adds up. I've gotten 30-40 more orens from some guys. Don't know if it has to do with me having the lvl 3 Axii sign equipped or not.

as long as there is no option it doesnt, geralt still has to use handsigns, eyecontact isnt enough :D

I had the same problem at the start, then I started going very high first (like 50-75%) of the bar, they don't agree, drop the amount. Usually I end up around halfway of the bar. Worked every time so far

The game is pretty realistic in some aspects. If you're trying to haggle with a peasant, he'll obviously not have enough coin to go above 10 or so. If you're in Novigrad, you can even go to full haggle with some rich folk.

What's that, peasant? You don't want to cough up more coin? Well, I suppose you can gather up your things and go kill it yourself. Or die trying. I'll just be over here watching you get your guts splayed across the countryside. Prick.

It does feel really tacked on. You can only haggle with contracts, and then not all of them. I would rather see the haggle mechanic implemented well in every regard as in shops, or just removed. It doesn't seem to fit in.

I would like to see it expanded and simplified. Allow you have a haggle bar in every merchant interface. If you invest enough in Axii get a discount and not enough in Axii a price penalty. So you it is a reward/penalty system. Giving the economy more depth and Witcher build more depth also.

While I agree that overall, the haggling system seems a bit tacked on as an afterthought, I can also see that many of you don't know how to haggle. I was able to finagle an extra 5 crowns out of the first contract with the Noonwraith where the default rate was only 20 (though I wound up letting him keep all of it because....25 crowns? Pfeh)

You *have* to start high. Pretty close to max, actually. You'll get a disgusted response that fills the Annoyance meter by about 60-75%, which is when you drop your ask by a significant sum till you get the only slightly annoyed responses. Then drop by 4-5 until they agree (unless their annoyance meter gets dangerously close to full, in which case drop by 7-10 just to be safe).

I've never even tried starting off by asking for only a few extra crowns, but I imagine if this game's as clever as it is with other aspects, the devs would handle haggling similarly, resulting in folks rejecting your first offer (always reject the first offer).

As for enhancing the haggling experience to merchants, that is a solid idea. However, pinning it all to the Axii sign is a bit overpowered. Axii is already one of the most useful signs in its application to social situations and, most of all, boss fights. Giving it another boost would just send it too far over the top.

It would be nice to have it for merchants as well. Most contracts I could get halfway up the bar for a bonus. Sure, that's not much with a starving peasant, but for the rich folks, can be a tidy sum.

I usually end up getting my slider bar somewhere between the first 1/3rd or middle of the range. Pretty easy to get a bonus in pay. Ive had some agree without any further haggling.

Raise your Speech enough to take the Final Offer perk point. Every time you haggle, start off by offering the absolute maximum the merchant is able to consider. The perk will kick in and you get another chance to haggle, but this time their price will be set to the absolute lowest/highest they'll consider.

It's useless, but I like to charge extra from people I don't like.
