Wow, I'm 32 hours in, and I just got to Novigrad and did the first mission with Triss. No I'm going out and doing some sidequest and contracts before continuing. I probably spent more then 25 hours in Velen, so I don't think I will get into Act 2 before perhaps 60 + hours as I think the last island is smaller, and Velen the largest.
Yes, and Act 1 is split into 3.
I ignored most Witchers contracts and did some of the side quests. Was planning to finish the main story and then living as a Witcher untill the Expansion comes out. But im not sure if those quests still avaliable after endind the arc. You know something about that?
And by the way Skellige map is HUGE. But just 4 or 5 main quests untill the end of Act I
Acts are like chapters. In the first act you will go to Velen, Novigrad and Skellige and your "mission" is searching Ciri. After some quests in Skellige it ends Act I and you go to act II that possible has a different "mission" so to speak. It will be the same regions but the game world will possibly adapt to your choices in Act I meaning it will have a totally different atmosphere. Thats why some side quests, if left undone, will be locked when you change acts. Also your decisions in Act I will affect what quests will be avaliable to you in the next Acts.
It took me 17 hrs to clear the all the visible "?" and side quests of the first map White Orchard(Btw, Its Worth! Nice items and recipies)
Now im in Velen not even reached Novigrad, im doing the quests ordered by level(sidequests i find, Witcher contracts, included), did not get all the quests yet from all notice boards of this map, didn't go to the "?" willingly yet...
Summarizing... yep its safe to say we will spend a LOT(unpredictable) of time in this game lol
Took me 5 days to finish without rushing through the story with doing like 90% of the side quests including witcher contracts, didnt even find all the witcher armors.....the game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ HUUUUUUUUUUGE
Tip you can see your playtime when you go to inventory and press RT if you play with joystick or C to see your play time, said 5 days , 10 hours of total playtime for me.
