Crafting useless for making money?

I made an armor for 128 and it sold for 106. Do you loose money every time through crafting?

Geralt isn't a craftman, he hires other people to make the items he want.
Imagine going to a shrubber, buy a fine shrubbery and then trying to make profit from that.
Try sticking to Geralt's own profession, hunting monsters.
Loot everything you can and sell that instead. Remember to sell items to the appropriate vendors. like weapons and armor to smiths.

Crafting bolts and selling them seems more profitable then just selling the base materials.

Yeah you lose cash. Just sell all the junk you pick up and only make stuff that you need (such as a new shiny weapon).

Certain swords net you a solid profit, contingent on you already having the material of course.

I think one of them's the Arbitrator or something, but don't quote me. And there's a steel sword that sells pretty well too.

It depends on the item, some can be profitable, especially if you already have the materials from random loot. For example, assassin gear is cheap to craft, but sells for hundreds.
