Axe vs Sword? (OP Axes are ridiculous)
So whats the deal with this game, there were mini bosses that i spent an entire hour to kill and finally when i did i got a cool ♥♥♥ sword drop with a lot of damage but then i go to the woods killed some bandits and 2 of them had axes with 20 damage more than the sword i got from the mini boss that i worked so hard to kill.. wtf?
that happend like 3 times already i dont get it why are the axes so op?

me neither and also the axes seem to be doing too much damage in their strong attacks.
at the beginning of the game i had an axe that was supposed to deal 44-57/. then i stunned a guy with axii sign and used a strong attack and it just one shotted him saying 300 something damage.

axes op

He means 20 damage more than the total damage of the sword, not just 20 damage. This happened to me too, currently swapped a great looking sword from a boss for a stupid axe from a bandit.

Axes might have a bit more base damage at the start of the game and i used one early on, but they got a different move set I believe and a bit slower, and they don't have any bonus stats or damage like relic or magic swords do. And with later on you will find much better swords, that axes won't be able to hold a candle to. So enjoy those axes while you can :)

There are rare axes. I found level 10 Dwarven Axe with +100 Armor piercing and 25% Critical hit damage bonus. Did just find a Steel Sword with the exact same damage but different bonuses. Might switch it. But that Dwarven Axe is really great. Doesn't beat my 100 more damage Silver Sword, but I think Silver sword usually out damage steel weapons all the time.

I went and did the Blood and Wine quests, got Vitis. One level later, I find a wild hunt warrior axe on a random bandit that does 49 more damage and has massive crit damage and armor piercing.

Maybe it doesn't boost my signs, but in the end signs only do so much where weapons seem to scale way better... It just seems wrong that at-level swords do less damage than at-level axes when the witcher lore is that you wield two SWORDS. There doesn't seem to be any disadvantage to wielding an axe either.

They dont carry on into the late or mid game at all, though. Sure it might have that little 20+ melee damage, but no bleed/ignite/poison chance, no sign intensity bonus, no crit chance, nothing like that. I think that once you get to about lvl 10 most axes become irrelevant

You can't put oils on Axes.

Yeah, finding this too. The bonuses from swords up until level 7 have been completely lack luster. So much so i wouldn't even bother to mention them. 1% chance to do X, 3% chance to do Y, all of which are low enough already compared to the base damage of the weapon. Why have a sword that does 44 damage with a 3% crit above base chance when you can have an axe that does 79. That's nearly double the damage.

I'm starting to find some other swords that are looking a little more respectable, but each time i find a cool sword (like the one that drops from the first Wild Hunt Warrior you kill), another axe drops with +30 more damage.

Why would you... oil is for silver sword. Axe replaces steel sword

i put sharpening oil on my steel sword. i nearly cut my finger cause you said it was not possible. i smell a law suit lmfao jk

but in reality people saying u cant put oil on a steel sword are tardy. there is hanged man oil which works on humans and non humans and i'm pretty sure there is an oil for wolves as well. people just like to think they know everything lol. you can not put hanged man oil on a silver sword in fact. or an axe but only a steel sword. yep. mind blowing. i know i necro'd an old post but it was never addressed. (edit. its beast oil and it can be used on steel or silver swords)

Feels weird having an axe and then people constantly refer to your 2 swords
