On the bright side,a group of orphants are now safe in Novigrad.
Im not so sure the kids are actually safe - the way the spirit words it "only I can *set them free*". depending on the spirits mindset, saving them could have an entirely different context from what you are I think, heh.
It's definately a bastard of a choice though, that's for sure. :)
btw I myself saved the tree ( tend to save as many npc's as I can )
I'm pretty sure those arn't the kids, because I saw them in the school building even though I chose to kill the treeheart. By 'freeing', the spirit meant simply getting the children away from the crones. They probably ended up in the swamp eaten by necrophages.
Advice for beginners, never believe any kind of monsters in Witcher (trolls are exception, though). You're just asking for trouble.
