I dont remember everything that well, done is on the first day of release.
The husband was stabbed, the woman was injured then dragged out of the house to the well and hung from the bucket rope. Her arm fell off because of the weighty bracelet she wore, although technically that whole skeleton should have fallen apart in the state it was in, not to mention 20 years hanging there, but I won't go there.
The reason it all went sour is down to the fact the woman in question made a remark about the lords son when he visited their new village (better to call it a hamlet, it's too small to be a village).
If you did the other quest with the hunter, which is part of the Griffen quest, then you'll understand exactly what it was that she said to anger the lord.
Spoilers ahead.
In short his son was homosexual and was secretly seeing the hunter, they were found out by the stable hand who told the lord. The lord banished the hunter but the lords son commited suicide shortly after, the lord was full of grief and became unstable/alcoholic. The estate also fell into ruin, probably because the lord no longer cared as his only heir was now dead. Although the estate falling into ruin probably happened long after the womans death, she said the wrong thing as the lord was obviously still emotional over his loss.
That's the story around that quest, as far as I know. Hope it helps.
I thought the Lord was killed by Nilfgaurdian not long before Geralt arrived. When talking to the bar keep she talks about how there was going to be a fund created to kill the Griffon, but the Nilfgaurdians killed the lord so the contract was never created.
Wow! Thank you! I've never paid any attention to that detail
