Are roach movement controls really that bad?
I've got ~45 hours in the game right now and I honestly can't stand using Roach. Starting to wonder if something is bugged or perhaps my 360 controller is having conflicts with the PC version.

- He randomly stops, or slows dramatically down, even in straight paths with nothing in the way. Every 5 seconds sometimes.
- He randomly pulls left or right, making you run into things, get stuck, etc. I get horses could do that in real life, but it's incredibly annoying in a game.
- He gets stuck on everything. Everything.

Are other people having these problems?

All you have to do is hold the button down and he sticks to the road perfectly until you need to take a hard turn.

It is not difficult.

Would have liked to have seen Roach be able to jump, but it's not a deal-breaker.

I wasn't aware roads went every single place you ever need to go, and you never have to leave them...

He can jump.

People don't generally gallop horses across rough ground.

He does it in open fields and in the towns with nothing in his way.

I remember reading some kind of dev interview not to long ago where the person mentions how horse controls have been an issue for them and redesigning the controls for it multiple times trying to get it right and how they still werent there just yet.

I personally dont know why they couldnt of just went with a normal control setup. forward makes you go foward, backwards backwards, left right makes you go left right... Nothing complicated about it at all.

OK just reread your OP and no, that doesn't happen for me. Actually if I'm galloping through a forest and he hits a tree he seems to deal with it and keep going. Not sure why you're having a different experience.

Are you using a controller?

It seems that left or right on the 360 analog stick sometimes acts like down, which stops the horse. The fact my horse is randomly turning left/right by itself (sometimes) could be why. Can someone confirm this doesn't happen to them?

It's weird to me because if it was my controller, I feel I'd experienced the same while on foot.

With a Keyboard and Mouse I have actually hardly ever had issues with Roach. To be honest its control scheme and fluidity of steering is some of the best horse controls i've seen in a game.

Yes I'm using a controller. The steering feels a bit sensitive when I'm galloping but that's my only issue and it's minor.

Oh how I wish this were always true. I can't count the number of times Roach decided that the road just wasn't worth staying on and charged off into the swamp....

I really don't find them all that bad... They are decent enough I can lop some guy's head off with little trouble...

I haven't had any of those issues... but I'm using keyboard and mouse.

The only thing I could think of is my controller is faulty. I never have problems controlling Gerald, so who knows how that'd be possible. I just tested it again, straight field/big area, hit A, then hit A and held. He ran for about 3s then stopped sudden, repeated again, 3rd time he kept running for about 30s then it happened again. Did it again, and he veered left even though I didn't tell him too.

What's even weirder is it does not do it during horse races.
