Dont get involved in faction politics.
Let them do what they do. I don't draw my sword on the Scoia'tael because they ambush other factions military transport cargo, because they are fighting for their people, fighting a invading army. So I let them be. Just a tip, remember if you get involved then in their eyes you picked a side and this can come bite you in the azz later on, be neutral. But if it comes down to picking a side, remember if it will benifit you ( you are a mercenary in a sense) or will it go against your morals. Just remember who spits on you when you go to their cities and who does not. This is just my 2 cents. Any thoughts?

Personally I'm sick of the Scoia'tael. In my playthroughs of previous games I bent over backwards helping those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. They've ALWAYS treated me like ♥♥♥♥, no matter what I did. Always called me dh'oine, which means human.. and that's somehow derogatory.
First of all, that is racist and completely hypocritical. Plus, I'm not even ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ human. 3 games they still call me that.
♥♥♥♥ them.
I'll go out of my way to kill Scoia'tael scum.

On the plus side, in the fight that ensued by NOT siding with Scoia'tael in the quest you were talking about, one of them missed me with an arrow and it instantly killed an elf next to me.
I lol'd. Plus the leader ♥♥♥♥♥ dropped a sword that I used for like 4 levels.

I hated them in W2. Maybe they have changed since the north is is changing, including the politics. I will give them a chance. But so far I do not like any faction for that matter, the black ones are more civilized and have neat culture, but they are a invading force. We will see.

F the Scoia'tael, they had no problem trying to kill me un-armed and 4 vs 1.

I chose Iorveth's path in the Witcher 2. If you could see why the Scoia'Tael are so discriminated against, from their point of view, you might have a bit of empathy for them. Out of the 3 games, my favorite NPC is still Iorveth. That dude is crazy, intelligent, and loyal to a fault.

I am indifferent to each faction - both look down and despise "Vatt'Ghern", until they need a witcher. My empathy and sympathy go to the intelligent monsters, the ones just trying to survive, Godlings, Succubus, Doppelgangers, etc etc - Unless they are truly evil, I try to let them survive.

Considering what humans do they are monsters too.

A little understanding of the Witcher lore might help you folks get a handle on the relationship between elves and humans.

Elves are one of the Elder Races (along with dwarves and gnomes). They inhabited the lore world prior to the humans. They are also capable of mating and breeding with humans. It might do well to remember that both Ciri and Yennefer are part elven.

Fifteen hundred years prior to the events in the novels, was the first Conjunction of the Spheres, which trapped many being and creatures from other worlds into the Witcher world, including ghouls, vampires and other monsters.

The first humans, the Dauk and Wozgor people, colonized the northern lands. These later were known as the Nordling and they traveled and settled on the Continent. The event was called the First Landing.

The elves, however, had long been living in those lands and when the humans arrived, they began to be persecuted by them, often slaughtered or enslaved until they were fully conquered and driven from their lands. All of those ruins you see in the game are elven and centuries old.

There's a lot of animosity still between elves and humans and it's not likely to be forgotten any time soon. So when you encounter them and they are less than friendly or even outright hostile, they've got good reason to be that way. They're harboring centuries of hatred and oppression and are still treated like inferior scum by humans.

This.

Additionally, their birthrates are way down and those elves that are actually still around know it's only a matter of time before elves disappear from the world entirely. Some have accepted this and others....not so much.

My Geralt lives in the moment. Ignoring thier rationalizations, a horse-thief is a horse-thief, just another bandit.

I didn't care about their political squabbles, I do more than enough delivery boy quests throughout that I do not take kindly to anyone with an attitude towards me. Elves being douches, they get the sword, humans being douches, they get the sword and so on.

My Loyalty lies to the People who treat me as an Equal.

I sides with Roche and Ves because in the end, They saw me as a Brother and fought by my side through my toughest battles.

I decided to save Temaria. Because even if half of it's folk think I'm a monster, The King saw me as an Equal, And so did many in his High court.

Except Geralt steals plenty himself, including horses. There are always rationalizations.
No one complains, so... I assume all the crap pick-ups are gratuities, or cover tax on services?

Let me tell you how it will be
There's one for you, nineteen for me
Cos I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman
