I would've figured the books would have done something to either make the repairs cheaper, or allow me to use the repair kits multiple times, I dunno. I mean I have to read other notes and books to trigger certain quests/ updates, I'd imagine those would've meant something. Ya know... because it said in the book... that I could do the repairs myself.
At any rate, the books do nothing at all. You even get tired of finding them on random containers.
But, as others have said, repair costs are not a problem mid-game. My character has about 10k orens and repairs rarely cost more than 250 or so.
Reading the book didn't do anything and it was the most expensive book I ever found (and I can resell it for a lot less.....). I will reload, I also went broke because of it.
They're not exactly free but you can craft them and they do drop as loot all over the place. I generally found myself having enough of them just from loot; while leveling anyway when you tend to switch to better weapons fairly regularly anyway. Towards the end you obviously stick with what you got and have to repair more.
Though as far as the books go, it's just backstory/lore for the most part (except for the occasional bestiary entry).
Yeah, well. Some of us played the game upon release, and didn't have the benefit of "Googling" this stuff. Which is why he had to exchange questions on the Steam discussions. I didn't even purchase it through Steam, since I got it DRM-free from GOG.
A game should be created in a way that we don’t need to google each time something is unclear, every answer should be inside. These 2 books have misleading descriptions.
