There is a captain in Novrigad that you can hire for 1000 coins.

You should have a main quest to go there. It's part of the hunting down Cyri quest line.

yeah i found it now, just to clear up if anyone else see this - you go to the harbor in novrigad and talk to some captains untill you find one willing to take you. give him 1000 crown and you can get there.

once you arrive (spoiler) you can find the guys corpse on a shipwreck on the beach and get your 1000 crowns back

By that point you should have atleast 3-4k already.

By sailing ship (not the small lorrys you can sail by yourself). Look for captians of such vessels.

Well you should be level 13+ or something before sailing, got time to save money

There's a main quest to get to Skellige. Its suggested level is 16, so at that point you definitely should have enough money to pay the captain.. You can go there earlier of course.
Once you're in Velen and once you have 1000 crowns, you can sail for Skellige.

One advise.. Don't go to Skellige too early!!

Make sure you at least played trough the end of the series of quest connected to "old friends" in Novigrad. You have to make tough deceisions there, and only after making that deceisions, you should go to Skellige.

Trust me... I will not spoil anything by telling why, but it is an well ment advise...

How "important" are those decisions? I'm level 14 atm. I've decided to do alot of the secondary quests?

Some things you can do on Skellige will make an certain quest related to an good friend impossible. I really can't say any more without spoiling it all. Just make sure you done all friend related quests in Novigrad, but be carfull with an certain decision..
