How to heal on harder difficulty?
I understand that you need to use food and potions for healing. But on harder difficulty you cant heal by meditating.

Is there any other ways to heal besides just food and pots? I'm getting my butt kicked a lot and am going through food like crazy.

There is perk (general tree), that gives you 10 hp/s during daytime.

I took the regen perk, but quickly regretted it,
First because it is so slow to get to full health that i still had to use food and the most important : you can get the alternative version of Quen sign in the second line in the skill tree, wich gives you health when an enemy hit the shield you generate.
And it's a really nice heal, i can get to full health with two shields depleted, of course that mean you will let on last enemy live so he can smash the shield and let you regen with little risk.

its all about using the swallow potion, that is really all you need (plus a top up of food that you find.)

Playing on Death March and loving it so far

the perk 10 hp/s during daytime is great early on in the game, since you don't have a lot of food and money. don't know if we'll be struggling with skill points later on, maybe i shouldn't have spent one point in it.

Same. Swallow then meditate to replenish them.

You can get more perk points than levels by looking for places of power and drawing from them, first time gives a point. There's at least a couple close to the starting point, although one did have a level 7 wraith guarding it which made things interesting.

Green perks increase potion duration when slotted so might want to look into one or two of those. I took the 5th one which gives a short slow time as a prompt for counterattacks which is handy if like me you tend to not notice the timing as much.
