CPU Temperature high (undervolted Ryzen 9 7900x)
So, I am experiencing very high CPU temps since the next gen update.
I have every graphics option maxed out. I have an RTX 4090 and a Ryzen 9 7900x. I regularly get 93-97 degrees on the CPU.

I do ofc know that the 7900x has a heat problem in general - however I undervolted mine and in any other contemporary game, such as cyberpunk etc. the temperature never rises above 85 degrees anymore after undervolting. CPU usage is never above 5-6%.

Is it a general issue and the next gen version is just poorly optimized? I also experience this issue after the lates hotfix.

My CPU don't go over 65 degrees and I don't use a beefy cooler. But atm it seems that the next gen version it's not very optimized.

I have a 5600x and am in the same situation. I'm getting a water cooler in two days.

65 is good temperature for Ryzen :)
Modern CPUs get pretty hot if application the is lightly threaded. Specially while using low endish cooler.

There are multiple reports that the Next Gen version used low amount of threads, which might be causes by poor DX12 implementation. Which probably leads in this case, into poor performance.

the performance is good, framewise. Only the temperature is worrying me. I am using a quite decemt water cooler and only experience this problem with witcher 3...hope they just improve the temperature issue:MICHIO::Nutcracker:

temperature is directly affected by high strain - which given the broken implementation of dx12 it just put extra laod on cpu for no reason (reducing fps, and using more of singlethreaded performance)

Your hardware generates a lot of waste heat. it seems like your airflow in the case is not the best. If a game only uses a few cores and these are heavily loaded, high temperatures can be generated in one place.
But don't worry, nothing will happen to your hardware. the new cpus are designed to withstand high temps to keep the boost. as long as the temps of your other hardware are okay. for the future, i would see that you get the full power of the cpu and that the temps are within limits. otherwise the 4090 gets bored

92 - 97 surely the cpu isn’t supposed to be running that hot… did you peel of the plastic??? Apply thermal paste properly??

Theese temps are normal behaviour for ryzen 7000, by default only limit for its performance are temps (boosting up to 95C) this happens due to design of IHS and is aknowledged by AMD.

indeed, I know - the point is that I have already undervolted the CPU to the point that other games, even the most demanding ones, run on less than 85 degrees while maxed out. Just imagine if I hadn't undervolted it and tried playing witcher 3 - which temperature would it have on default? Crazy.

It would reach the same limit... folk at AMD know what theyre doing with their boosting algorythm.... thing is, other games mostlikely dont have performance issues like this one does, and even then tehy would use more cores so the heat would be spread out.

Temp readout is from hottest core, so if this game uses only one, but heavily it will create more heat (without undervolt, you would have just lower performance).
