They changed the skybox to make it work with the ray tracing, they made it much less detailed.
They changed the weather system too, its way less dynamic to make sure ray tracing works most of the time.
They changed the colour pallet of the game, this one is a bit subjective, but still.
They changed like you said the HBAO+ setting and overall ambient occlusion is better on classic, because again, RT has its own RT shadows so it must of conflicted with regular AO, again, this version is totaly gimped graphics wise to accommodate RT, but if someone things otherwise, feel free to say it, cause from where i am standing its a downgrade unless you using all the ray tracing features, wich are quite demanding, oh and another thing, the trees barely move now , i suspect its to accommodate for either RT or FSR/DLSS
I like HBAO+. I use it in Fallout 4 and it makes a noticable difference, esp when it comes to how light reflects on objects.
In this game I can not use RT, because the game will ether crash or the fps tanks so bad it is unplayable. On a RTX 3060Ti. However, I do like DX12 and how the visuals appear to be noticeably better. To me at least, using DLSS set to Quality and Sharpness to max. I also use Hairworks set to max. Ultra+ settings for most other settings.
But it is important to note, I play at 60hz, Vysnc on and 1080p. And do not run a FPS counter. So there may be some frame drops on occasion. But nothing I have seen which I consider a issue. For my own enjoyment, it plays smooth enough.
The update overall, is really good, not considering the RT mess. The weather is more dramatic now than before. The clouds look more realistic during a storm and the lightening, etc. Also the trees do sway at times, esp during a storm. But do not have the almost constant hurricane force winds like before. :P
Not noticed any color issues and Ambient Occlusion seems to work the same.
So I guess everyone's experience is not going to be the same.
I have used MXAO in the past, and this seems to be the same exact filter..
Bizarre.
