Any tips for extra FPS in DX12 mode?
Heyoo i've been noticing that the performance with the 4.0 patch has been disappointing, considering that I compared DX11 ultra + to DX Ultra + and there's a a difference in illumination/lights and tessellation but it's not a massive difference.

Long story short, have you guys found some optimized settings to stay on 60 fps or above without sacrificing much in visuals? I play at 1080P so 60 FPS is enough for me.
So far I have: NVIDIA hairworks OFF and Grass density to medium..
Anything else to consider or just wait for patches?

I feel like you are on the right track and if you are already seeing 60 frames, and with the settings you've already disabled, I'm not sure what else you can do without disabling RT options, such as the shadows.

I'm seeing similar performance on a Ryzen 9 5900X + 3080 Ti + 1440p with the similar settings. Nvidia Hair Works was a big problem for me. I have everything maxed except grass density and with hair works on I was seeing 30 to 40 fps, then 50 to 60 after disabling it.

Oh, if you haven't already, I've heard enabling Nvidia Reflex Boost helps with keeping performance stable.

I would just set all the Ultra+ settings down to Ultra. These presets were kinda designed to have diminishing returns.

Thanks guys! going to tone it down to Ultra instead of Ultra +
such a shame, I've been reading through the forum and it seems like there's plenty of people having issues with the game right now performance wise.

Turn on FG.

I recommend to delete the config files if you played the classic version before, and let the game recreate them. I got higher GPU usage after doing this, performance improved a bit.

Also, put the setting related to the number of npcs in background to medium or low, this is a very demanding setting

Grass density and foliage distance scale are the two most demanding settings next to RT. Lower those down to increase FPS

What GPU do you have? I have a 3080 and the moment I turn ray tracing on I am instantly at 50fps. I don't know what else I can do, I have tried everything, but I thought for sure I would be able to play again with the new graphical upgrades without dipping below 60.

Considering he wanted to optimize non-RT settings, I assume OP is somewhere under RTX 3060 territory.

Also the next gen update contains settings and presets that aren't really supposed to be runnable at this time but could be just right for future hardware. For now, everyone has to find his own balance between visuals and performance.

Do you happen to know where to find this file?

Exactly, RX 6600 XT (it's a medium range PC basically so I just need 60/1080p)

Gotcha, medium settings for both?

Simply Make
foliage distance to medium
Nvidia hair works to low-on Geralt
vsync off

It's under Documents/The Witcher 3

Disable Steam cloud first, then delete all the files in that folder, except the folder with your gamesaves.
Start the game and configure all the settings again, close the game and re-enable Steam cloud.
