DX12 is superior
According to CDPR the DX11 version is missing graphical features and not just RT. The same graphical settings on DX11 vs DX12 are not equal. And for everybody raging that DX12 is unplayable, I gotta say even my Steam Deck runs the DX12 version with higher settings (Including FSR 2) than the DX11 version with about the same performance. :steamsalty:

"Following the release of Patch 4.0, players have access to two versions of the game:
The DirectX 12 Version
This version includes all graphical improvements and Ray Tracing features.
The DirectX 11 Version
This version has no Ray Tracing support and lacks some of the general graphical improvements introduced in the free Next-Gen Update, therefore the performance here may differ even if comparing with the same preset run on DirectX 12 Version.

Players with less powerful hardware who experience performance issues might want to consider playing the game using the DirectX 11 Version."

dx 12 is better when the core game was made with it in mind not with the bullshhh they did, aka a wrapper.

After seeing some posts on here and a bit of testing in game myself. Ultra+ settings on dx12 do look better then ultra+ on dx11. I was hating on dx12 but after playing with the settings its good.

edit: just hope CDPR can improve CPU usage.

Is not a real DX12 proper build, is DX11 with a few tweeks, CDPR didnt took the time to make a real DX12 build, ask any software engineer what they think about the DX12 file, they gonna laugh.

How is it not "real" DX12? RT is only supported on DX12 and so is the newest versions of FSR and DLSS.

I think it might be due to the increased LOD and the amount of NPCs. On R7 5800x I am never having any CPU usage issues, at least not yet. On Steam Deck I do see the GPU and CPU fight for power in cities and the FPS will drop to 30-40 FPS.

But overall I think the game uses the cores evenly. I am not seeing 1-2 cores sitting at 100% usage while the rest chill, I am seeing even usage across 8+ cores/threads.

Dark Souls 2 and ohter titles did it with DX11 back in the days :D.

It means it's not a proper implementation of DX12, it's probably a wrapper. To put it in simple terms, it's somewhat like an ENB.

I am no expert in DX12 implementation or work with APIs. DX12 and Vulkan have however compared to older APIs introduced better CPU utilization, which I do believe I see in the next gen version. One thing I do know is that graphical features and performance is linked to API type and some are exclusive as of this date. Saying it is a "wrapper" seems like terminology from people who don't know what they're talking about.

It seems you need an upgrade if you can't use your RTX 3080. My RX 6800, which is less powerful than your RTX 3080, is chugging along just fine. Disable RT and hairworks and enjoy the game.
