Thanks for this info! I'll just add for those using Proton and Gamemode to use it this way:
gamemoderun %command% --launcher-skip

this is not a user friendly solution, but it works. in the Witcher 3 folder open the file 'launcher-configuration.json' in notepad, change the last line "fallback"from "DirectX 12" to "DirectX 11" ... then --launcher-skip will work since the 'classic' version is DX11, though you may need to set it to DX11 in the launcher the first time since it defaults to DX12.
hi! I made all the steps but don't work :( i miss the classic version

did you downgrade to the 'classic' version in the betas section? this only works with the DirectX 11 versions on pc.

for the DirectX 12 version all you need is the --launcher-skip with the original 'launcher-configuration.json' file.

@troyights pointed out a method above for linux/deck users with Proton and Gamemode.
yes that was the first step i don't know more what to do

did you set the game to DX11 mode in the launcher first? it defaults to DX12. other than that I don't why it's not working for you, I just tested it and it's working fine for me in steam.

Witcher3 is in the task manager but not on the screen.
I don't understand why we have to have the launcher for the classic version just to touch the eggs

The update broke my game. I have followed the steps to set it up to run the classic version but it tried to download the game eventhough its already sitting in my game directory. Because its about 1 day to download 31g, steam crashes after about 12 hours. Restarting steam, the download starts from the beginning and not where the download stopped. Don't know why its not seeing the files are already on the computer and insists on downloading it again. Also the witcher3.exe file is missing from the bin//x64 directory so alot of the tips are posting to fix the problem are not resolving the issue.
Any ideas?

this was just about eliminating the launcher on the 'classic' version. I have no advice on these 2 issues.

maybe CDPR felt left out of the 'look at our cool launcher' club ... even though they once claimed launchers should be optional ... I guess their version of optional does not include a checkbox or toggle to easily disable it.

Thank you for replying me.
I'll give up using W3EE and play new gen.

I just tested it and it's working for me. I don't know of any other workaround.

i can run it from the .exe file but it disables steam overlay/steam achievements completely

The update didn't mess with my file. Looked at the file and it still says DX11 and thankfully I don't have the extra launcher. I did a clean install of the Beta to make sure I didn't have leftover garbage from the Next Gen version before I edited the file.
