I thought the expansions came for free with the new update?
they are still greyed out on the new game screen and it definitely hasnt downloaded separately on the DLC page. Am i wrong in thinking that we got blood and wine and hearts of stone included in this update for free? and if not HOW THE HELL DO I DOWNLOAD THEM??

they not free, you need to buy them.

They never said they were going to give you the expansion for free. All they did is rename GOTY to Complete and some people on Reddit lacked reading comprehension and started spreading that kind of rumor.

update is free the expansions you still have to buy it like the rest of us

I think they come free when you buy the next gen ps5 and xbox versions.
Schrader Dec 14, 2022 @ 4:23pm
Bro they're not free...

No where on the entire internet does it say this.

I wonder who started this misinformation. Nowhere CDPR was saying that DLCs would be free, however in the past month I regularly see such claims pop up in different forums.

Well i found it to be confusing marketing. CDPR's own twitter says:

The Witcher
@witchergame
The next-gen update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming on December 14th, free for everyone who already owns the game.
For more details and gameplay reveal, tune in to REDstreams next week on https://twitch.tv/cdprojektred.

on an article that also states:

"The next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. This edition will feature all free DLCs released so far, as well as the two major expansions. These expansions are the Hearts of Stone and the Blood and Wine expansions. Anyone who owns a PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC version of the game will receive the next-gen update for free. Moreover, players can get a physical edition of the next-gen version, although a specific date is still not available"

yes i now see that its specifically says complete edition but to spruik something as having all DLC's included for free, well it just goes without saying a lot of people will take that as this includes the DLC expansions too. Its just bad marketing, which one is it CDPR? a next gen "version" or a "next gen update". Why would there need to be a next gen version if normal versions can get a next gen update for free?

its very deceptive wording

Yeah, now that I read this I kinda understand why people got confused. But, still...

so now we have:

witcher 3
witcher 3 with next gen update
witcher 3 plus 2 expansions (that are DLC purchased separately)
witcher 3 plus 2 expansions (that are DLC purchased separately) with next gen update
witcher 3 GOTY
witcher 3 GOTY with next gen update
witcher 3 complete edition
witcher 3 complete edition with next gen update

and then they go and say ALL DLC if coming free with the update but just conveniently dont include the 2 best DLC, the expansions. everyone here acting like its not mixed messaging when it clearly is a mess when half the versions are all the same

selling the next gen update as coming with all DLC would make sense to include the expansions so all these different versions dont exist and its just a single product, finally.

Actually the wording suggest the COMPLETE edition will include all the DLCs. But, you get the update itself for free. The wording is kinda weird (I would have worded it differently personally.) but it is still accurate. Would have caused less confusion as well.

I think OP was confused by the word "Free" thinking the DLCs are covered by that word...Not!

I personally think, it is still reading comprehension issue. They said that "The next-gen update" is free for everyone who already owned any version of game. But they never said that they would give the "hearts of stone & blood and wine" for free. What they said was that for those who don't owned the game yet, what will be available for them to buy is the "the next gen Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition" which already includes those DLCs. In other words, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition is just a rebrand/rename of the GOTY. So if you only bought the original edition, you only get the next gen Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and still needs to buy dlcs separately.

its not a CoMprEheNsIoN iSSuE. when they say all DLC's are included in the update then its completely reasonable to take that as ALL dlc's and not "some" dlc's.

the 2 expansions are downloadable DLC's and that is where the issue lies
