Are Grandmaster armor sets worth the trouble?
I got sick of The Witcher's weapon / armor crafting system somewhere around the first half of TW2, and it's even more pointless in TW3 thanks to dynamic loot levels: you spend 4 hours and a small fortune gathering the materials + diagram needed to build a shiny new thing, and not 10 minutes later a random loot drop / quest reward outclasses it completely.

Since I don't trust this system at all, I have a simple question for anyone who's already built + tried the TW3 Grandmaster armor sets out: do the unique set bonuses make that much difference? Or have they already been rendered obsolete if I'm currently finding stuff that's scaled to 25+ levels higher?

! last note, their is nothing wrong with the combat, remember when u say that, u are talking to a some-one who started Hearts Of stone at level 3 on DM, with a level 1 sword, if the combat mechanics were that BAD, I couldent have done it.. User Error is more likely here
No it's pretty concrete that combat is unpredictable and can get you killed. If you swing your sword within arm's reach of an enemy, and Geralt decides to do a spinny move to get closer, your death is 50/50. The fancy long-winded moves are what kills players, they don't control when that happens.

if I only used signs and hold right click permanently or dodge like it's a Souls-like, yeah I could probably do a no-hit run, but I don't wanna do that. 99% of players including myself want to engage with swordplay, that's why we conclude "Witcher 3 is an awesome game but the combat is bollocks", because it is. There is a skill ceiling in this game, and the only way to hit it is to never use melee unless all your targets are stunned, very annoying to set up perfectly every time.

Value of witcher sets is not armor protection, but special bonuses allowing to specialise even more. Cat and Griffin armor to create glass cannon, Wolf is mixed bleed + sign.
Odd one here is Bear Armor (which was absurdly OP meta in old-gen, but protection of all witcher sets has been nerfed into ground in v4.0), Adrenaline bonus is meh, but with help of Runewright you can enchant it into light armor to make it balanced damage/protection build.
Manticore (Geralt's jacket from W1) is a bit meh, i personally turned it to be light armor to create crit build, because come on, it's just a shirt and leather vest.
Viper Armor is more like run-of-a-mill balanced armor, no special skills, but also not hit by 4.0 nerf hammer nearly as hard as rest. It's biggest appeal is looking like starter armor.

I an my m8 disagree, if combat was unpredictable, then there's no way we could have dealt with the OIferi mage an crew after the TP battle at level 3......... He has done it as well..

He's completed HOS by level 11, an i'm on the final battle, also lvl 11, we are talking Deathmarch here.

Funny we don't seem to be affected by the "dodgy" combat.
