Is there a point to clearing all the "?" on the map?
An achievement, event, quest, or anything?

I really hate whenever a game introduces a sailing mechanic, especially in an RPG. All of those question marks are just tedious travel times for treasures that are not worth their weight in my pack.

So is there a point to all those ? mark treasure chests in Skellige?

Or are they basically the same as the random chests you find around the world (except they are marked on your map of course)?

I haven't seen any type of "100% clear" achievement.

As far as I've seen, some of the points of interest on the map can lead to smaller quests, but most are pretty pointless aside from some loot.

I have run across a few beasts I could not put a dent in at level 14.I am assuming they have good stuff.

places of power for skill points

some hidden treasures do have level 3 alchemy stuff in specific areas (i got superior insectoid oil in same place in skellige on 2 seperate play throughs)

This isn't some sort of JRPG requiring you to visit everything, get all the loot, and max all your stats. Don't worry about it, I'm really OCD about completing alot of stuff too but I've learned to tone that down a bit. Just enjoy the game and when you stumble upon one of them have some fun with whatever you discovered :D

I just finished 'act 1' of the main quest but i've done 100% of all side quests (next non-story quest is lvl 27 in my log) and fully cleared velen and all islands in skellige so i'm level 25 (death march).

I also have the majority of potion recipes although i realize i'm missing a few, but not sure if thy are worth the time sink to sail to those stupid places.

However, I also have something like 75 "?" left in Skellige I haven't explored yet....

Sailing is so boring and the combat at water is just atrocious. If all I get are the recipes, which I won't need to complete the game, then I think I'm just going to skip them.

@SaltedQuailEggs: I was more asking with respect to some kind of "100% clear" achievement (or whatever a witcher equivalent would be)

"?" = Smuggler Chest -> Pointless (especially in Skellige, there's tons of it)
"?" = Anything but Smuggler Chest -> Had items or diagram or recipe for us to collect.

My first play, not using any debug cheat. My second play, open debug console and open/reveal all of those "?" sites, so I know what my priorities, and Smuggler Chest gonna be the last to collect.

@DeGorro: but why collect them at all? just personal OCD?

I'm not sure if there is a 100% clear achievement. You might as well finish it though considering how much you've done already. I would never be able to muster the patience to comlete all of them since most of them are silly things anyways. I prefer just exploring and happening upon them throughout my journey.
BDK Jun 20, 2015 @ 7:38pm
Nope. You'll finish the game at lvl 35 regardless.
SophisticatedPie Jun 20, 2015 @ 7:55pm
Treasure hunts needed? I honestly dont feel like doing any of them. And then theres Skellige which I just cant force myself to go to all those question marks... I'm level 27 and on the last main mission. Did all the sidequest.

The game will level you up to 35 before you face the final boss. Unless you rushed through the story, I cant imagine you not being lvl 35 by the time you face the end boss.

If there was an achievement for it, how much more of a point would that be, really?

Now I'm curious if GoG had some kind of achievement system too.

GoG does have achievements, when using GoG Galaxy.
There is an achievement to destroy all Monster Nests in the game
Another achievement to have all the different kinds of Place Power buff on your character at the same time.
Clear 10 Monster Nests with bombs.

These are the only 3 achievements that would be related to the question marks on the map for GoG Galaxy.
