Carnal Sins - Where did the murderer go? (Spoilers)

I need help with the quest carnal sins. I just ran out into the Vegelbud Manor's garden after the murderer, but I can't find him. All the guards are hostile, still I won't kill them because they're innocent. I just want to follow the murderer. I can't use my witcher-senses because I'm constantly infight (I even rebound blocking to another key so that rightclick can only activate the witcher-senses, still they don't activate), nor did I find any clue to the murderer without them. The last I see of him is when he runs around a corner, murdering a guard while passing.

I won't murder the guards, they're innocent! I just want to catch the murderer!

Kill the guard. Then the quest will continue.

you don't really kill any guards, just hurt them enough and the story continues
