Question about Vampire Lore
Are Katakan Higher Vampire? As in Human like and not beastlike like Ekimmara? The Katakan in Oxenfurt speaks, and the Higher Vampire dude in Novigrad who asked if it's 19th of May 1358 yet transformed into a Katakan?

Are Bruxae Higher Vampire as well? One was capable of "true love".

Don't think Regis ever transformed into a Katakan?

I understand Ekimmara may look like other vampires but to Higher Vampires they are like Ghouls to Human.

Bruxae are higher vampires.

It was weird when you find Priscilla's attacker and

SPOILERS

He turned out to be an ekkimara. They seemed like beasts, not capable of intelligence.

I've done all the contracts/almost all side quests and *Minor spoilers* there are 2 higher vampies I encountered. The one in Novigrad that kills heretics and one in Oxenfurt that drinks the blood of people who are sloshed drunk.

So my theory (as it isn't explained) that higher vampires are "human" most of the time, but in combat can switch to the look of an Ekkimara for souped up fighting abilities.

Erm the Oxenfurt is a Katakan. There's also a hibernating Vampire underneath Novigrad who transformed into a Katakan (not the mortuary dude).

Yeah getting my vampire names mixed up without looking at the beastiary. But that's my guess on why the higher vampires switch to giant bats in combat. I'll load up my game and see what it says about them.

Doesn't say what the Novigrad dude is other than a higher vampire. But I found out the answer to your question. Bruxa are higher vampires and I remember have a brothel they run in Witcher 1. On the journal entry part it says "She often finds a victim to become her lover and a constant supply of sustenance at the same time".

Here's a link to the wiki and the vampire you talk to in W1 (and can sleep with):

Well I didn't mean that Vampire, in one of the short story basically a Bruxa loved a cursed rich man and when she died she confessed her love and lifted his curse.

I thought there would be more story to the 1385 Vampire. I was disappointed :(
