How to improve the anti aliasing.
In the nvidia control panel, set antialiasing mode to enhance, antialiasing setting to 2x, and antialiasing transparency to multisample. You can raise the settings higher if you like but i didn't notice any improvement nor any performance hit so let me know if you see a difference.

Other types of AA don't work except FXAA but these settings only enhance the existing settings and add transparency. I've checked in-game and it's definitely better.

What is your PC config & what settings are you running this game on, and what fps are you getting with these settings ?

Would be nice if you could elaborate on that a bit.

going to say this now , texture lod bias damaged anti aliasing and they have yet to fix it , nvidia control panel can not override any modern games the engine has to support msaa stop thinking its being applied, when they added in different texture lod bias settings depending on this setting the aliasing may increase and crawl way more then before , the witcher 3 uses a temporal supersampling combined with post aa throw fxaa on top of it and you seriously will see very little , the aliasing your talking about well let me be the first to tell you deal with it or upgrade to 4k
These settings solved pretty much all aliasing issues for me. It's almost unnoticable now. You have to really pay close attention to notice any aliasing. I'm using a 970 and I average about 45 FPS though is varies depending on various factors of the location. I lost no FPS from making these changes, even on the highest settings possible. I run everything on ultra at 1080p minus hairworks and a few post process effects I don't like(blur, depth of field, vignette, etc.)

hmmm do you also have sharpening maxed out ? Would be nice if I can retain the same performance I currently get with my 980s in SLI.
I have it at low because I think it looks better. Same impact as high for me anyway. Trust me, unless I'm just a fluke, you're gonna see no hit at all from these settings. 980s in sli is already overkill.

just tried it out. See absolutely no difference in the aliasing. It's already barely visible with the in-game settings.
Well then enjoy your game. I only posted this to help people who were unsatisfied with their current level of antialiasing. If you see no difference then don't worry about it. I've had pretty bad aliasing since patch 1.05 released and this fixed it for me so I'm happy. I hope that this information will help others as well.
To clarify, I noticed improved smoothness and blending of grass and significantly reduced aliasing on trees. Maybe other people won't notice the changes because they're not as sensitive to these things, maybe they use dsr or play on resolutions too high to have significant aliasing, maybe the issue only affects some people. All I can say is that it solved my problem and that I hope it will solve someone else's.

I enabled Fxaa and used " Enhanced Settings".(2x fxaa and transparency at 4x).There is a noticable improvement in the game. And no hit on performance whatsoever.(Iam using a GTX 960m).
I did this on my gtx 1080 yesterday and it was a very noticeable improvement. No more shimmery edges. GPU took about a 5% load hit though. Still not at 100% usage at 100 fps though :)
if you dont like the fxaa the game provides then use the reshade.me mod's sweetFX preview
Nothing trumps dsr though with an nvidia card. Set the dsr to 1.5x, left fxaa on in game and it is perfect. Not a jagged or shimmery edge in game at all.
I have looked for some aliasing/shimmering fixes but there isn't really much to do. One important thing is that Texture Mip Bias affects this very significantly and setting of -1, which is default with Ultra textures in game, is horrible. Change it to 0. Ultimate Graphics Settings Mod gives you full access to all settings like that from in-game menu. Second thing is to disable in-game AA which isn't that bad but is pretty poor and shimmers a lot, which is strange given that this is temporal AA that usually tends to be blurry but very effective and with no shimmering. Instead use AA from Nvidia Control Panel. I have 1080 SLI so I am using x16 SLI setting. Choose "replace application settings" when setting it up. This combined with Texture Mip Bias at 0 instead of -1 is as much as you get for better AA, less shimmering and smoother picture. This also gives performance improvement, at least with SLI, I get almost 10 more FPS by replacing in-game AA with Nvidia AA. And it is better, in a meaning that there is a little but more jagged edges but much less shimmering and everything looks much more pleasant to the eye.

Helps heaps, I was disgusted at the quality of the vanilla anti-aliasing. Thanks tons. I am using just the x2 with regular multisample
