What happened to Geralt aging?
I might be alone in this, but from following the game before release up until the day it came out I had operated under the assumption that the events of Witcher 3 would span several years if not decades(some of the dialogue also implys a few years have passed from the beginning of act 1 nearing the end of act 3); in a lot of the promo art and footage it looked like Geralt aged/ages. Did anyone else think this would be the case? Like this promo art http://www.gamebanshee.com/images/artwork/gb902_367/The%20Witcher%203%20Wild%20Hunt%20C.jpg

or this

Looks far older than this

And its not just the thickness of his beard which does seem to grow ridiculously fast as you travel around. I was hoping that at least by the end of the game in the end game after the major events I would be able to walk around as way older Geralt like nearing Vesemirs age, but nothing like that seems to happen

As always, they toyed with the idea of old man Geralt and it didn't work, so it never made it into game.

Thats a shame. I was really looking forward to that. I felt it could have worked since Yen and Triss are already fairly old but look young due to magic and we would get to see Ciri grow into a powerful empress

timewise there seems to have been about 6 months between the end of Witcher 2 and the start of Witcher 3. At least thats how long Geralt had been searching with Vesemir after finding out Yennefer survived.

Even if the game did take place over a few years there probably wouldn't be much physical change in Geralt. Remember - he's a witcher and he's already been alive for something like 200 years...boy doesn't age normally.

I thought we would see a huge time lapse in the final parts of the game, like a closure or what if scenario based upon what ending you got. I thought he was closer to 90-100 years from what the last book says.

I don't know about the books but regardless I think it's safe to assume that the novels and the games are running on two seperate storylines and may only synch up out of convenience to CDPR. However I do remember pretty well playing the game yesterday and in some dialogue it was mentioned Geralt was that old.

No, Vesemir told Geralt he's close to a hundred in Kaer Modhen flashback with Ciri. That's barely 10 years before the game.

Or Dandelion is a Higher Vampire because he's been an adult before Ciri first came to Kaer Modhen.

Now that's an idea, in the 2nd expansion Geralt will come to Toussaint and discover Dandelion is actually a higher Vampire who drink virgin blood under the moonlight!

The books and games aren't separate, the games continue where the books left off. It's all one giant story

The events of the games are considered non-canon by the author.

But they follow the history of the books nearly to a T if not for a few exceptions and unique to the game aspects such as Lethos existence.

In fable I remember you aged so quickly using magic. It kind of was a bummer walking around a 50 year old man after a few hours of play. I think it was a good choice not to age Geralt.

You don't want aging because one game did it poorly and had it implimented in an extreme way? I also just explained how I assumed it would be implimented here...

Yeah it was too rapid in Fable - unless you blitzed through the main story of the game you were an old man by the end...while everyone else didn't age a day...

There's yet to be a game that does it successfully and honestly I don't think there ever will. The best way to implement such a thing would be in a linear fashion where the game is distinctly broken up into acts that take place over a long period of time.

Which is what Witcher does....
