Some questions from a level 3.
I have so many items that I looted from baron's castle, but like a lot of items, going to a merchant and putting my cursor over them they will say a price that they sell for, and then a bracket of a higher price. i.e. Silver Candebarum = 16(32) - what does this mean?

Also, no spoilers but do I get to go back to the first map? I have a lot of unexplored space there. I am currently on the second map at level 3. Is it worth exploring the unexplored space on the first map (and second and third for that matter), whether I get to come back to these maps or not, or should I just ignore it and only do the quests? What do you guys think? Is it boring and repetitive and the same thing over again in the unexplored zones?

Finally, I have a lot of junk stuff in my bag. Should I sell it or should I break it down into materials?

dismantle all junks they are worth too little to sell. Except for hides (horse, goat etc). Those you can dismantle or sell up to you.

You will be swimming in crowns sooner or later. If you want to dismantle hides, you will be swimming with their materials very quickly too. You can sell those when they accumlate

For exploration. Do not explore unless it is a ? or a ! . Places that do not have those do not explore, as you might break quests. Especially if you are in an area which you explore yourself and you see some red markers to examine, DO not examine them!

Sidequests, ? and ! are the places you go to. Other than that, avoid others. If you see your map and see that there is a settlement nearby but no marker, avoid it. It is 99% tied to some quest which you have not encountered.

Only keep stuff that's rare or has low weight. Leather and metals are so common as loot from containers that you really don't need to dismantle much at all. So sell, sell, sell, but use the right merchants. Smiths will generally pay more for weapons, herbalists will pay more for herbs and so on. In addition, some merchants in later areas like Novigrad will pay much more than the starting ones.

I always sell swords and armor at smiths in Novigrad and Oxenfurt because they pay much more.

At this point, I only dismantle things that give me rare materials. Relic swords will usually give you some gems that are worth much more than the cost of dismantling.

Hmm well I don't think the problem is this severe. If you like to explore do so but the point about the red markers I guess makes sense.

There are quite a few settlements on the map which are abandoned - kill the local monsters and villagers will move in - usualy gets you a new merchant and a decent chunk of xp. Those villages which are related to quests usually have monsters in them quite a bit higher level than the surrounding countryside.

Aha of course. The one without I just visited I probably just never picked up the marker for.

The storyline does not take you back to the starting area.

Wait, I'm a bit confused.

So what red markers are you refering to that I shouldn't be exploring?

Also, I've already freed an abandoned village which had dogs guarding it in the first map, so that the people moved in. Are these the kind of settlements you're refering to?

So does this mean you need to get a ! marker at an abandon site to visit it or it messes up a future quest? Or does this just mean that ? turns into abandon site logo and you can visit those when ever.

Also, does the story ever guide you back to the first map so that I can explore? Because I've already gone into the second map without exploring a lot of the first map which concerns me!

Just go to a waypoint and go back to the first map if you want. You can do so at any time.

When you open your Map. and you see ? or other kind of markers like Abandoned Sites, Treasure, Places of Power, those you can go and clear explore. Noticeboard unlocks more of these MARKED places.

Sometimes you will find places where your map doesnt MARK , those places are tied to a quest, so it wont mark in your map. so its best not to explore those yourself. When you get those quests, these area will be marked when you trace them in your journal.

When you play the game, very often you will need to use witcher sense to investigate or examine stuff that is RED in color .

If you visit an UNMARKED area and saw those RED markers and examine them, it might break the quest for you because you are not suppose to visit there or examine the yet.

Hope u understand haha

For the first area, White Orchard, you can explore the whole area as there are no more sidequest there that might break.
