So, I have the option to kill the guys that interrupt the Fire, or I can tell him I don't want humans to die. I was feeling lazy and let the dudes end the ceremony. Did I miss anything in terms of reward/exp?

Yea, the Peller gives you a small quest.

It wasn't because "he didn't want humans to die". It was because Geralt, and many of the Witchers, have a sort of a "code". They have no problem killing monsters, but aren't assassins or mercenaries,so wont kill people unless they absolutely have to. So Geralt deciding to not get involved in the dispute between the Pellar and the Witch Hunters makes perfect sense. I also chose to remain neutral and not get involved.
