But on the whole, the trailer was really good. Seb speaking over the trailer and explaining we can save the girl but it's all choice I was hands down brought back after some initial wobble over having to play as Ciri (which I hated in W3) but now she's a witcher which although is causing some controversy, I am sure will be explained.
I would advise the devs (Seb) to get this done asap going forward so most of us can move on from it. If playing as Ciri is as badass as Geralt I am sold.
According to the lore of the World of Pan Andrzej Sapkowski, only boys who successfully passed the mutation became witchers. Ciri did not undergo this procedure, which means she is not a witcher. She is a princess who was taught fencing and shared her knowledge of monsters.
She literally drinks a mutation potion in the trailer, something which only full witchers can do.
Also CD Project RED already stated that she is a full witcher who has gone trough the trials by the point Witcher 4 is set.
The books also never state that women are not allowed to be witchers, they say every woman who tried died during the Trial of Grasses and thats why the witcher schools only accept boys.
But Ciri with her elderblood and magic powers is no normal woman and thus could survive the trials.
Thats all there is to it. IF a woman in the lore could become a witcher then its Ciri.
She is like the super duper special god child of awesomeness in the novels.
Way more then in the games.
There's a whole bunch of unreal engine uncanny going on, and a lot more bad angles than the previous engine had. It's pretty clear they're still figuring out the new engine.
Then Ciri becomes an outcast from the princess, because if she is a witcher, then she will no longer be able to give birth to children, witchers are infertile and it is useless to lead her to the throne.
Yeah, and? She never wanted the royal role, her biggest dream was always following in Geralts footsteps and becoming a witcher. She does not care about her real father the emperor in the slightest, neither in the books or games and wants nothing to do with being a "princess".
She would have zero problems sacrificing that part of her and if it makes her infertile, even better because now she has no worth as a royal successor anymore and they will finally leave her alone.
Why would someone remotely be satisfied with this explanation?
Do we live on Mars?
She got older.
According to the devs, this is only a few years after TW3. That's some rapid 'aging'.
From listening to the devs, I get the impression that (for many reasons that have already been brought up), she won't actually be a witcher. For a start, she uses the source rather than using signs. Geralt will be in the game in a mentoring role, so the game will still have a link to the Witcher title.
Development has only really started in earnest. This was the first real announcement. We don't know details. I feel confident that the devs will do the right thing.
Fair point. I missed that comment.
