I really hope that CDPR does not make Ciri into a Mary Sue
One thing to note: I should have read the Discussion Rules. My Bad.

I already posted this earlier but it got wiped because it was too politically far right. This is a repost with the politics removed to the best of my knowledge. So please forgive me as I have never had post get wiped before, let alone for political reasons. I've always tried to stay out of politics.

TL;DR If Ciri is anything like Ellen Ripley or Sara Connor then the Witcher 4 could live up to its predecessors. If not, then clearly good things don't last for ever. No matter how classic or iconic they are.

I want to be fair... but, in my humble opinion...

I don't have a problem with Ciri or Ciri being a Witcher or the protagonist of a Witcher game.

What I have a problem with is her becoming a Mary Sue or rather, a variation of the Mary Sue trope. She is after all the "child of Destiny", and that has always screamed Mary Sue to me.

That being said, I watched the announcement trailer and Ciri is clearly not Wonderwoman, despite having previously had access to the Elder Blood, I get that. So I'm not going to delve deep into the Witcher lore here because my point is: we're dealing with a fine line here.

I don't know ♥♥♥♥ about the lore, I literally just started reading The Witcher short stories. So I'm not going to respond to negative comments from lore nerds.

How do you know?
If you even watched the trailer you would know its clearly nothing like what you are afraid of. DId that fight not illustrate how badass she still is?

A Mary Sue is the best at everything since day 1 and never faces true challenges. You can say it about Rey from Star Wars 789, Harry Potter, Boruto, She-Hulk or Miss Marvel. But definitely not about Ciri, The Witcher 3 shows that she's been trained physically by Geralt and supernaturally by Yennefer since her childhood.

Funny how whenever a woman is the main character some people starts to "I don't like Mary Sue, I hope it's not one of them" but no one ever do the same with Gary Stu.

I don't know about Harry Potter but Superman and One Punch Man probably are.

Thats not true. No one ever called Ellen Ripley or Sara Connor Mary Sues.

She has the Elder Blood, making her the child of destiny. Only she can stop the White Frost. She's had all that power since she was a kid. That being said, I never said she WAS or IS, I only said I hope she WON'T be because that would ruin her character.

It's impossible for Ciri to be a Mary Sue given her backstory and the amount of setup she has to be both naturally powerful and an excellent fighter. A Mary Sue is someone who is powerful in a way that makes no sense.

I agree with Jimbo here; I think with everything in her backstory, she really can't be a mary-sue anymore.

I feel that though. I love the idea of Ciri as the next protagonist, and that trailer got me freakin HYPED man. BUT, I do have some concerns in context with what we know or have been told about the lore.

What I don't want CDPR to do, is pretend the lore doesn't exist and just sweep it under the rug. That's the easy and lazy way out. I want them to find a way for her to become a witcher WITHIN established lore of either the books or their games.

And I already have some ideas that they could do. They have ways to do this, and it make sense within the game. So we will see what they do here. As long as they don't just say, "Ciri is a witcher because we say she is" and actually explain how and why it happens, I'm all for it.

Super hyped for this game, and I am also curious as to Geralt's role too. I assume he will be a Vesimir-esque character for Ciri? I just wish we had a rough idea for a release date. Not even a date, at least a YEAR would be nice.

Its trilogy as far I know, there gotta be alot of twists and spins.
Cirilla was already a typical Mary Sue in W3.

Exactly.

Geralt is pretty much a textbook Mary Sue in the sense that he's THE quintessential Witcher, who's better, faster, stronger in every way than his fellow Witcher compatriots but he gets a pass solely because he's a man. Like he's literally and canonically a Witcher among Witchers in that he aced an stronger, enhanced version of the trial of grasses (that literally nobody else could survive) which turned his hair white. He's THE most perfect Witcher.

But again, Geralt doesn't get accused of being a "Mary Sue" because he's a man. But Witcher Ciri? Oh nonononono, SHE has a "Mary Sue" problem now.

Lmfao what? We talking about the same Ciri?

Y'know, the same Ciri that literally resigns herself to her death in one of the endings fighting the White Frost because you made the worst choices as Geralt and effectively ruined her self-esteem/confidence? The same Ciri that spent over half the game running from Eredin and the WIld Hunt trying to claim her powers (instead of felling them in one, whole swoop) and in the end needed Geralt and friends to defeat? Yeah, a total Mary Sue that one. Perfect and flawless as can be.
