Did the Witcher 3 meet your expectation?
The Witcher 3 is a great game but it didn't meet my expectation. I wasn't sure what to expect but I didn't get the same vibe as both Witcher 1 and 2. The quests aren't as magical and nothing scream "EPIC" in this game.

A lot of the epic scene shown in the gameplay trailer did not make release. Remember the scene where Geralt ride with the Nifgarrdian? Remember the epic scene where Geralt first got to the Palace of Vizima? Yup, they didn't make the final release for some reason. There was also more quests in White Orchard before release which was somehow cutted from the game.

CDPR said that the game will have an even better story than past Witcher games even if it open world and that isn't true in my opinion. There nothing magical about W3 compare to past Witcher games. Remember the scene when you first arrived in Flotsam and Triss had to use her shield to deflect the Elves archer arrows? Remember the scene where Geralt and Roach and a few other had to escape Saskia the Dragon? Remember the epic scene where Saskia review herself to be the dragon? Remember the scene where Geralt is on top of the building fighting Saskia? Remember the final fight between Geralt and Lethos? I could go on and on. It was just magical and epic in so many ways. I didn't get this feeling from the Witcher 3.

Witcher 3 really started off slow. You didn't really get to hang out with your companions until Novigrad and even then it was short lived. It felt you were just a monster assassin for hire for most of Velen and while that is what a Witcher is, It never felt that way in both W1 and W2. The Baron quest was the best the Witcher 3 has on an emotional level but I don't think it is exciting as a lot of W2 questline. They story also drag on and on in Novigrad and that something I never felt in both W2 and W1.

Before the game was release, I made a post worrying that the Witcher 3 would lose the magical charm of the Witcher 2 and that the game would never be as Epic and it look like I was right unfortunately. Knowing that past Witcher 2 locations beside Palace of Vizima (inside only) would not be in the game, I knew that a lot of magic was not going to be presented in W3. However, I had hoped that Velen, Novigrad, and Skilledge would be somewhat impressive but it just isn't in my opinion. The best place in Witcher 3 is a quest through time and space and that desert environment is both magical and beautiful and unfortunately it not a real place in the Witcher 3.

I would have liked the Witcher 3 to have been located in Zerkannia, Nifgaardian, and Kovir instead.

Witcher 3 exceeded my wildest expectations.

For the most part yes. However I found combat far easier than the 2 previous version. To me Death March felt like the mid level settings.

Quen and Axii is too overpowered and enemy damage is far too low. Though poison and acid effects are well balanced.

I prefer W2 over 3 overall. Though there are things W3 is vetter than 2.

I have to say storywise Witcher 2 has my vote. It was my first Witcher game and I was still enveloped in that story. Witcher 3 is still my favorite game that I've ever played. I hope Fallout 4 can claim that title in a few months. Fallout 3 was very special to me.

I like that Witcher 2 combat is a challenge. In W3, even on Death March it still feel really easy. Quen is awesome and Axii alternative mode doesn't work for me? Can never get those enemies to fight one another.

♥♥♥♥♥ dude,
this is the game of the year i m sure of it, i bet its the best game i have untill now, ♥♥♥♥ gta deadspace and all other games.
I m not a fanboy, i m speacking as a gamer who played all games.
And i did like this game the most,

The facial expressions are fanstastic.
The Graphics magnificent.
The Story is incredible, i even bought the 5 books and read the first 3.

so i do guess it did come to my wildest expectations as well.
But the end was bad, i would like to see more.
Not waking up in kaer mohen with no one of the main characthers around Geralt.

You have it active on your skill tree? I used it and it made easy combat even easier. Its fun for a brief moment for me.

I'm just comparing this to past Witchers games. I said it is a great game so nothing to laugh about there mate.

I agree that the facial animation is excellent, however I still prefer Witcher 2 colorful graphics and unique location abit less realistic than Witcher 3 location. The story in Witcher 3 is where I truly disagree with you. There really isn't any story in Witcher 3. It just a goosechase.

Like I wrote in my initial post, the best place in W3 is a quest.

I'll likely get shot down for this, but the game is too long, and I'm quickly losing interest. I started out enjoying it, but once I hit Skellige, I had outlevelled everything just by doing the Velen and Novigrad quests and all semblance of a challenge is gone.

The game also likes to talk too much. I'm sure its for the "lore" and all that jazz, but I honestly don't care about half of the stuff they're yacking on about.

If I do manage to finish it, a replay is extremely unlikely.

And you call the small constrained and copy and paste environments of the Witcher 2 better. There is seriously nothing of interest in those environments. Its just the same over and over. WItcher 3 is packed with content. Witcher 2 was not. You could finish the game in 30 hours. It was a good game but not even in the same league with WItcher 3.

with the story you're kindda right saying it, they didnt put the magninificient story to understand its like 10 quests in a row.
I was actually speaking about the real vision from the books.
But they must make a game aswell, i think it would be pretty to do it and still show us all places like skellige and stuff.

Far surpassed my expectations. I liked Witcher 1, Loved the second. Read all the books too. Really liked meeting Ciri and Yen finally and Djikstra, Keria, Rita and the others were icing on the cake. I actually imagined Djikstra almost exactly like that in my head. Loved all the references to the novels, like Djikstra talking about how Geralt broke his ankle, Yen's quest, and Dudu himself. DIdn't watch any trailers or gameplay footage pre-release so everything came as a surprise to me.

My last Open-World new release was Dragon Age: Inquisition and I was very disapointed. Witcher 3 made up for that disapointment and so much more.

Novigrad! Amazing. It makes Orlais look laughable.
Questing is fun and interesting, even if it's just a (supposedly)generic monster contract.
The characters are all written well and have believeable motivations/reactions.
The environment is beautiful. Skelliage in particular is awe inspiring.

There were many tear-jerker moments, many gasp-out-loud moments and quite a few laughs. The facial animations are all awesome, you can see what emotion they're feeling just by looking at them.
The new monsters ver very interesting, like Godlings, Fiends, and Griffins.

Just an all around great game as a fan of the Witcher. My subjective review.

I should be clearer in my initial post. I take Witcher 3 over Witcher 2 anyday but only because it open world and there more to do than the Witcher 2 so higher replay values plus mods when it eventually get release.

I like the monsters designs, armors, npcs armors, companions (Triss, etc...), Geralt himself, environments, Saskia Vyvern, and difficult combat over the Witcher 3 but that doezn't mean Witcher 3 isn't a better bang for your buck.

at first.. I didnt think id like this game very much and figured I only want this due to hype. Got witcher 2 to see if i even like the story which i did and now Witcher 3 has to be my favorite game this year and the series all together is one of my new favorites.

This game is just incredible to me, it meets almost all my expectations and even more except for the combat(it can be frustrating at times)

this was a well $50 spent that I do not regret, cant wait for the DLC's to come out and get the season pass.

I spend $32 bucks on the Witcher 2 and felt I got ripoff but only because it was short. Witcher 2 was one of the very few games like MGS Substance and KOTOR that I never wanted it to end. It was that good so obviously my expectation for Witcher 3 was low.

I guess a Witcher 2 + open world will never happen. That to me would be the ideal Witcher 3.
