Is 4K worth it?
I could get 2 980TI's for max settings 60FPS 1440p
Or I could get 4 980TI's for max settings 60FPS 4K

Is the high price worth the quality in 4K (I've never played i anything higher than 1080p)

Woah woah woah... skipped all the comments due to the fact you think it takes quad SLI to max in 4K. That's a silly thought. I have two Titan X's and get 60 fps for very close to zero graphical loss @ 4K. You don't *need* to max a game, things like AA actually make the IQ wose on high pixel density screens. Save yourself a thousand dollars, and just take the time to read a tweaking guide. If you're really concerned about smoothness, instead of another 980 ti, get a G-Sync 4K monitor like the one I have. The XB280HK- check it out. Don't be stupid with your money.

Man I wish I could see what your seeing and gaming in 4K. If only I knew someone with that setup. Stuck on 1050p on the Witcher sigh.

Wait for Pascal. The current 980ti & FuryX still are not good enough. Plus the current SLI & Crossfire solutions don't scale very well when using more than 2 GPUs. So getting 3 or even 4 cards could potentially cause more trouble than it is worth. Eithe wait for Pascal next year or stick to 1440p
