Does Hairworks cause anyone else's GPU to get noticably hotter?
Turning hairworks on using my GTX 970 causes a pretty large temperature increase of like 5-10 degrees depending on how high I set the hairworks settings. Anyone else notice this as well? I like hairworks, but I don't want my GPU exceeding 80 C. :/

Anything that makes the gpu work harder is going to increase temps.

I'm aware of that, but 10 degrees is a lot for hair.

Just hair or not it's very demanding. And thus means the card has to work much harder, meaning higher temps.

Yeah I know. It's just that most other settings don't make such a huge difference temperature wise.

Because none of the other settings are as demanding as hairworks.

Do you think that's an optimization issue or is it just naturally demanding? I thought that Nvidia wanted to make all the Gameworks stuff usable on even mid-end cards.

This is a pretty good explaination as to why it's so demanding.

See I knew something was up. My new 970 should be able to handle hairworks while only increasing temps slightly in my opinion.

This isn't new. Hairworks had alway's been very taxing on peoples machines. Of course your computer will overheat while running on hairworks. Think about the silky smooth hair you will have. Of course it will cause your machine to run slower with a noticeable drop in frame rate and it will get more hot more quickly.

But think of that silky smooth hair.

Hairworks is an experimental setting, that causes your cards to run extremely heavy tesselation tasks, this will heat up your GPU. Some type of tasks are heavier than others. Nothing wrong with that.

If anything it is CDPR's fault that we can't select lower tesselation settings.

My oc'd 980 ti never gets above 70 with hairworks on. Then again it has a massive cooler with 3 fans on it.

Well... you would get hotter if you had a lot of good looking hair too :P

I see what you did there.

is it tesselation, them cuda cores are must be getting a workout. gpu must be loaded nearly 100% playing this game is like running a gpu stress test.
