Are the best weapons/armor in the game the witcher gear or some of those old relic weapons?
I seems like any Witcher specific gear is better in stats but doesn't that mean the game is suddenly really boring? Most of the fun in games is finding some lost, old, but powerul blade in the wild or finding good armor after killing a big boss.

This causes eveyrone to wear the same gear - any Witcher armor vastly is better than anything else of that class. Now when I find sword in a lootbox I think "great, I can sell this for a few crowns.

The mystery and finding gear is gone, now you just from point A to B and bam you get the best armor in the entire game.

Why even have blades you can pick up because it won't matter, in the end the Witcher gear is the best and there's no need to do any exploration.

Even the sword that Hattori crafted for me was ♥♥♥♥. I sold it immedietely to the nearest smith.

The way I see it there's Witcher Gear, then everything else.

I often use relic sword instead of set one, especially for steel sword. The choice is more difficult with silver swords. Set sword usually give you an xp bonus. the +5 per cent for steel is not a great loose, but for silver it s 20 per cent, that make decision harder to take.

Armor is an other matter, imo. Witcher system is completly anarchic. Real difference between light armor, medium and heavy is far to be obvious, unclear and perhaps close to inexistant.
I just look on the armor piece stat without care about it s classification.

To be fair, Witcher is more about the story side of RPG than character development/building. I completely understand and sympathize with what you're saying, but Witcher isn't very focused on gear.

I don't like witcher swords.. No I do not want a 20% exp bonus. Why the hell would I want to level up faster?
I like my relics. Just gotta find the right one.

Some think like you, other not. It s like achievement some people dont care about it, some want it and need the 20 per cent to reach level 35 and get the achievement.

Overall Caz is right Witcher is more story line based. + Game is easy enough for you even prefere some sword or armour just because you find it good looking.

However I dont like too much incoherence. Especially about armour CDPR obviously not finished the work or did it badly. Happilly it dont ruin the game.

I used a couple of random swords here and there, but over all kept to the Griffin or Cat witcher swords. There was one Silver sword I almost took to the endgame, can't remember the name, but it had +90 Armor Penetration and other perks, and three slots. I added a +30 armor pen rune and the + AP and + Sign power runes to it.

The only other swords I preferred to witcher gear had high levels of stun/stagger/freeze/dismember, and I would add stun and freeze gems to them. Fights are short and criticals frequent when one hit in three freezes/stuns.

I took the Cat school perk early, and wore cat gear and exclusively light gear pretty much the entire game.

This is still my main weapon at lvl 20^ I've tried some more options closer to my level but nothing has worked the way that does.
Certain monsters still seed the silver touch so I keep a bloodsword in my inventory just in case.

I wish there wasn't a restriction on what oils can go on what sword.. seems silly. It's a blade oil. There's no reason I can't slap some on that blade instead.

In fact. if there's a mod that will take that dumb restriction off (that I'm sure is just some kind of idiot buffer for those who actually can't tell what sword is what) I would like to know about it.

Interresting screenshot. Lvl 13 character ; armour and horse equipement have been buy to merchants, over 5000 gold in reserve, and two greater rune stone on the sword. At this level greater rune stone dont drop, so it have been crafted, that cost a fortune, not to speak about shema. I m more admirative on your business skill than on the sword.

Ultimately, this game is not about a gear grind like Diablo or any number of MMO's. Those games are ultimately very rigid and system based. While the Witcher 3's gameplay also has loot and its own gameplay systems, the story is the focus and the gear grind is not.

No, I don't feel it makes the game boring. There is a stretch between Witcher gear at certain points where another sword can come in handy. It makes sense that Witcher gear is the best gear. You are using the gear to do Witchers work after all.

I think the gear in the game is done well. You can use the Wticher gear...or just use other gear in the world. It is really up to you.

I'm thinking back to that time and honestly cant remember how I got those runes.
I know I spent a boat load of coin on schematics and recipes from Keira and a halfling herbalist in Novigrad.
There seems to be a lvl restriction on certain things you find but I remember my own surprise as I looted the first barrels on the path with Vesimir and found 2 dimiridium plate.. I never find those just lying around and yet I had 2 at level 1 o_0

That the game is more story line than fight based is something about everybody agree. However armour system is very weak if not incoherent / not credible.
A short exemple
bear cuirass lvl 2 you can wear at lvl 25 vs Griffon lvl 3 you can wear lvl 26. the first one is supposed to be an heavy one, the bear and weight 6.9 kg, the griffin which is a medium weight 20.8 kg.
Stat are about identical. 160 VS 165 AC, and bonus 10/10/10/20/30 vs 12/12/18/25.

Who can really said what is the difference between a medium and an heavy armour ? Point weight here is probably a dev mistake like some others exist.

System is imo blur, anarchic, and perfectible. It lack of credibility and it s only because the game is very good and not combat focused we can easilly forgive it. I would have prefere a better system, of course, with light armour and heavy armour with real différences, strengh and weakness, but we cant have something perfect I presume.
