Is playing Gwent game necessary?
I've given up playing the Gwent game all together. Just concentrate on the main/side and exploring the W3 world.

Is it necessary to play the game at all?

I haven't played since the first game and I am over 50+ hours in with nothing indicating that should have played that game. So, my answer is no.

Not necessary. But the game is a lot of fun and has players and related quests scattered all over the place.

Yes. Ask the guys who're still trying to get that Zoltan card, lol.

There is about 1 (maybe 2) instances where it is an option to move the main plot. That same plot point also have at least 2 alternative methods to move the plot.

There is also one interesting side quest and romance (aka sex) that requires gwent to be played.

More serious answer - you will miss out on 1 sex scene, with a character that will return in 2nd expansion, 10 000 crowns, a bunch of crafting ingridients, 4 steam achievements and a lot of fun.

Umm the main game is about Gwent. There's a side game that has something to do with Geralt and killing monsters.

I have a list on the side of my computer of these "missions" that could mess up my quest to be the Gwent god. Geralt has a serious gambling problem

Hated gwent never played it still finished the game. Although it only took me 80 hours instead of everybody elses usual 100+. So I guess gwent gives you a ton of more hours of gameplay.

Gwent is really fun if you get the hang of it, adds a lot to the game as you can collect and build your deck as you travel different locations, not to everyones taste and was tough to get into but if you were like me and needed a decent tutorial you should check this out if you want to give it another bash.
