He first appears with the scar in Witcher 1 and not in the books. So he got the scar during his pursuit of the Wild Hunt after they captured Yen. It's up in the air IMO. For a good story let's just say he got the scar while fighting the Wild Hunt at Hanged Man's Tree.
The dev's put the scar there to add charachter to Geralt I read some time ago when trying to figure this out in the Witcher 1 or 2.
He does but it doesn't fit with the story, because he has the scar in the begining of Witcher 1.
Geralt had been a Witcher for at least 30 something years at the beginning of the first Witcher game. He and Yennefer were still young when they met.
Hahaha i so doubt this , didnt they meet like 15/20 years back? Geralt is around 90/100 years old by the time of witcher 3 right?
My point was that his post sounded as though he was assuming the beginning of the first Witcher game was near the beginning of Geralt's life, when it reality, regardless of the actual number of years, there was plenty of time for him to actually get the scar before the events of the first game.
You misunderstood what I was saying. Geralt doesn't have the scar in the books. Atleast there's no mention of it. Hell I only remember one recent mention of him fighting a Cockatrice in the books and that happened in Toussaint (in Lady of the Lake) which was only a couple months prior to him rescuing Ciri and Yen from Castle Stygga. Again no mention of a scar.
Shortly after rescuing Ciri and Yen he dies in Rivia. Ciri (16yrs old at the time of these events) takes both Geralt and Yen to the Isle of Avalon (Avall'ach). Yen is later captured by the Wild Hunt on the Isle. Which leads to Geralt tracking them down to the Hanged Man's Tree almost a year later.
He trades himself for Yen there. So some where between the Isle of Avall'ach and the begining of Witcher 1 he gets the scar. Having amnesia and practically forgeting everything (Yen,Ciri,The WIld Hunt, his entire life) I find it hard to believe he remembers some random Cockatrice contract where he gets this scar.
Where and when did it happen? Did he take a contract while tracking the Wild Hunt? Did he take the contact when he was with the Wild Hunt? Lol I doubt that one. Either way, how did he remember that contract yet forget everything else?
Doesn't he regain his memories in The Witcher 2? I remember there being a conversation where somebody asks him if he finally remembers and Geralt replies with something along the lines of "Yup, all of it."
As Robske said the dev's put the scar there to add character to Geralt. But they bumbled the backstory of the scar IMO. In the Witcher 2 memory scenes Geralt has the scar during the pogrom of Rivia. From the perspective of the books the only recent Cockatrice contract he had was while he wintered in Toussaint prior to rescuing Ciri and Yen. So from CDPR's perspective he must've gotten the scar during that contract. But I find it hard to believe that Frangilla Vigo wouldn't have healed that scar immediately. The backstory of the scar from CDPR's perspective was not well thought out.
Seeing as how the games and the books are different timelines, anything goes.
You guys are arguing facts from the books as if they actually mean something in the context of the games, when in reality the situation here is very similar to A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones. Same characters and general plot, but the games are free to put totally different pieces in between the important bits.
