"Just the story" difficulty, still too hard...
Is the "for moronic player", "half paralysed" and "full ♥♥♥♥♥♥" difficuty patch coming anytime soon? Cos that's what I felt when playing this game. While I know I'm not the best gaming player in the world but hot damn, this game on the easiest difficulty make the souls series and bloodborne look like kindergarten homework. Werewolf that regenerate health faster than your attack points and a monster in a cave that teleport around as smoke and kill u in 2 hits.I beaten them, but I have more trouble fighting fodders in witcher 3 than the ornstein and smough in anor londo. I can only pray that the main quest story boss is not hard as my days playing GameBoy.

Because it is too easy, IF you play it correctly. If you are trying to steamroll your way through enemies that are much higher leveled than you, especially at the very beginning, and you've only been playing for 20 hours, that must be the case.

You need better gear and weapons to start. One of the first things you must do is find the Viper School gear (Serpentine Silver and Serpentine Steel Swords). I won't go into detail on where to fhind them. Google the information.

Then you need to at least get the Temerian Gear and Horse Gear from the merchant you rescue during the Prologue. While you need to be level 4 to you them, they will provide better stats than your starting Kaer Morhen armor.

Then you must take things slowly. If you breezed through the Tutorial during the Prologue, I'd suggest starting over and doing it right this time. That Tutorial will teach you everything you need to know to play the game effectively. You need to know how to parry, how to counter, how to use your signs to protect and defend yourself and how to catch your oppoenet offguard so that you can defeat him.

Then come the potion, decoction, oils and bombs. It's easy to right these off and say that they're not necessary and why bother with them, I'll just fight my way through and speed run the game but you're going to die and die often, even on the lowest difficulty setting. And it's not because it's difficult. It's because it's not how the game is meant to be played.

You are role playing as a witcher. That doesn't mean go ahead and pretend you've got a magic pair of swords that can slice and dice and don't have to worry about being level 4 and going up against a level 12 or 16. You will get pwned. There's no two ways about it. But it is actually possible to defeat an enemy that is much higher than you are if you take the time to read the beastiary regarding your enemy, read the books you find, read the letters and notes -- they're there for a reason, to provide much-needed information to you, the witcher, on how to deal with these enemies.

So you find out this one's weakness is a particular sign and that a certain oil coating your sword will do additional damage and that using Quen will protect you from hits and now have the means to go out and kill efficiently and survive your encounter.

The game is very easy once you level up and even on the most difficult setting, those who know how to use every tool at their disposal (upgrading constantly everything that can be upgraded) enjoy ripping through enemies right and left without constantly dying.

You'll also learn how destructive you can be fighting while on horseback as you can literally rip your enemies to pieces without taking any damage by using strong attacks.

But, if that's all too much for you, then this game isn't for you. But don't blame the game. Many of us have been complaining that it's just too damn easy. Once you've leveled enough and have the best gear and weapons, nothing can touch you. Obviously you don't believe that but you fail to realize that none of us got to that point without seriously taking into account all the game has to offer. Those tools, those skills, are there for a reason. They're there to help the player become a witcher.

Hope you give the game another chance and this time consider what it truly means to be a witcher. You're not just carrying those swords on your back for show. You're also carrying a ton of bombs, potions, etc. to aid you in your work.

Upgrade skills, remember to make them active by placing them on the skill tree in the character screen. Remember to craft everything you can and constantly swap out gear and weapons when needed. Repairs are important too as they mean you're using optimal equipment that will get you the most damage against enemies. Find all of the witcher school gear and craft them. Upgrade them as well. This is some of the best gear in the game. Find the Places of Power and use them.

In short, learn how to play the game before dismissing it as being too hard. Dark Souls is too hard. The Witcher 3, especially on the lowest setting, is a joke.

nice post. on my 3rd run trough TW3 now. never played any other difficulty than "Death March" and the game is not really that hard for a RPG Player ready to put in some effort. acually there are so many overpowered tools for Gerald to choose from.

I think the hardest part in combat is to not get stuck somewhere in the envoirment cornered by enemies. Boats can be deadly sometimes...just got killed by low level bandits near a beach the other day in my boat just because I couldn't get out of combat mode to leave my boat and fight on land. in combat mode I'm not allowed to climb/jump...that's something I don't like really.

anyways, hoping for a interesting 1.07 patch now because the Interface needs some love really. especially the horrible inventory.

Ugh dark souls, I feel like the controls are part of the reason that game is so challenging.

The controls are perfect in every way imaginable... unless you're trying to play with KB/M, in which case..... get a controller. The game is MADE for a controller.

BuzzardBee had it all summed up. Mustread to any newcomer.

The bullet points are:
1) Loot everything and switch to a better gear. Sell/discard heavy trash.
2) Learn and use the ability points.
3) Use signs.
4) Potions AND food: make and use them.
5) Check the enemy (quest) lvl if you dont want surprises.

Keep in mind not everybody has fast reflexes, and is an very good player. The game must also be played by people that are not hard-core or even seasoned players. It is possible less experienced players have more difficulties, but still want to play this game purely because they like the stories.

Also - keep in mind older players have less fast reflexes. While I am not an hard-core player, I have enough games "under my belt" to feel comfortable in TW3 on higher difficulty. Still - now I am older than 60 years, I can already feel my reflexes are not as fast as they where a few decades ago. Nothing serious, but yeah, it's noticable.

on the 1st difficulty lvl " Just story.." ( and on the 2nd lvl the same) you can just push left mouse button and it will be enough to play the game, nothing more to do or think about. What should developers make more easy then that? that mobs just die at once if they see you?
Many games are so easy nowdays... that people already forgot for what they have brains.
Just 2 cents.
The game is easy if you use simple tactics.

To make it clear, I'm not trolling or anything. The Witcher 3 is a great game, I clock in 20 hours in now and I can foresee at least 100 hours before moving on to Mad Max and MGS V on Sep. I'm just quite surprise the community generally think is too easy.

I played on Death March and actually I really felt that it was too easy. asd
I dont understand, the "just the story" or EASY is really EASY, if you've played the souls games and lived to tell the tale then this game would be no match for you. maybe its how you play the game? I've beaten the game twice on normal and currently doing the third difficulty or "Blood and Broken Bones." my suggestion is learn to use the two "dodge" manuevers to get out of the way... the short range dodge and the roll, and if you've played the souls game, you know that you just can't wail on an enemy, you've got to choose your strikes and dodge attacks, throw in signs and bombs and you'll be a master at this in no time. slot ur preferred skills and use mutagens and fight bandits higher than you, usually red in the health bar and they will drop better equipment you can use to destroy the opposition.
I dont think it is too easy on the hardest dif , the hits hurt like hell unless you keep quen up at all times and i atleast dont have enough patience to do so.

With that said , this isnt exactly a hard game , then again , i dont think either DS1 or 2 are hard games, while i do admit DS1 had cheap moments like those 2 silver knight archers.

I would advise the OP gets a mod to increase his XP gains, If all you want is the enjoyment of the interactive movie this game can be. make xp jultiplier X10 level up after each quest or a few monster kills and walk into novigrad level 50+, I promise, the game CAN'T be hard at that point.
Alright, I usually try to avoid mod till I completed the game but if the wild hunt bros are too tough for me to handle I'll just have to make an exception (fought the first wild hunt with kiera whatnot and if it isnt for her I'll probaly die 10 times++).

I got murdered so bad on the first Wild Hunt General.. I died 15+ times and I was reaching the point in my mind where I was willing to hang it up. Like: "Nope. Geralt could not defeat the wild hunt and he died splattered under a gigantic warhammer. The End"

I was on the hardest difficulty because my pride allows for nothing else but all of a sudden, after enough rage had enveloped me, I tried just that once more and totally obliterated the cun7.
No oils or potions this time, I got so sick of all that crap.. I just knew him all too well now and I sliced him down to size, flawless.

His dying words were the best part though.. *Not much of a spoiler at all*

"Who taught you to fight like that!?"

HA!!.. YOU DID YOU EPIC 4UCK!!

And something that nobody has said, and I use all the time...

Find and fast travel to your grindstone and armorer's table. ENHANCE your weapons and armor before anything that is remotely challenging, especially in the beginning.

It made a WORLD of difference for me.

PS. all these positive comments are very helpful and right on the money.

I'm playing it on blood and bones, and at lvl 21, I'm concerned the game has become far too easy. I'll likely turn it on to hardest.

OP, I will say this, the harder modes are much harder at the begenning of the game. Once you lvl up and place some upgrades in logical spots, you'll find it far easier. :drownerbrain:

Funny, I think the Just the story difficulty is the one that makes more sense, at least story wise. I'm currently in a Death March playthrough and it really is ridiculous how some farmers, drunkards and ne'er-do-wells masterfully block every single swing of the best swordsman in the Northern Kingdoms.
It was a bit hard for me 2 things on Death March if you try to finish quests on recommended level:
1. Botching to kill ( not to save it)
2. Jenny of the woods
That time you do not have good gear and it was challenging for me
and I did those quests even 2 levels less then recommended, so was a story:) but was fun

DO NOT begin modding the game to make it easier.
Give it some time, remember to loot as much as possible, and upgrade your items when you have the oppotunity.
Also, if you are not aware, you only gain benefit for the skills you have slotted. So choose wisely when putting points into skills.

I've played it on blood and bones for nearly the whole game. I started at the second difficuly, only to realize it got too easy very quickly.

Witcher 3 is not a hard game by any means. If you come up against a werewolf, then prepare for the fight. I think Igni stops the regen for example. Remember to use oils, potions and bombs.
sorry but its really easy on lowest diffculty, either you have no gear, just get the green witcher sets from the questst and use quen vs bosses (shield sign) and you have no probs.

ah yeah and dogding always helps too

i play on sword and story and with quen + dodge i have no prb killing monsters that have skulls above tehrie heads ( means they are way over my lvl, that could be youre prob, meaning youre lvl 10 and try to kill lvlv 25 boss so look that you do qeusts on your char lvlv first
