GPU Temp = 90-100 Celsius
Running the game on a gtx 690 and an i5-2500k.

My GPU is way too hot while playing this game. It doesn't matter if I play on low or ultra, the temps are the same. I've tried several other games to see if the temps are high, but they are fine except when I play this game. Cannot seem to find a fix for it either. Any suggestions?

Also, according to my specs, what is the framerate I should be seeing? I'm running the game on low and can barely hit a stable 60 fps. That's a bit odd, isn't it?

Try turning your GPU's fans up to 100% manually before starting the Witcher 3 and see how it goes.

At those temps your GPU could be throttling like crazy so that might explain low fps, but your GPU, as nice as it was, is just not going to get 60fps in this game on higher settings...

At that temp your gpu will be throttling, hence the unexpected performance. You should get 60ish fps @1080p med/high settings.

The game is very demanding no doubt, but I would definitely make sure your heatsinks are clean and case airflow is ok. As that is way too high temps.

Thanks. I cleaned my case a couple of weeks ago, so I have no idea what could be wrong.

Yep, I'll give it a try.

That seems very weird. Low is ... well, low. I expected medium to be honest with you. I could play Dragon Age Inquisition on high/ultra just fine.

I'm sorry I should have been much more specific. You're not going to get 60fps at Ultra, but like the other poster said medium/high you should do quite fine. (as long as you get those temps down) Keep Hairworks off for sure, it's an fps killer.

Ok, I'm fine with medium as long as my GPU doesn't melt. I tried running the game with my fans turned to 100%, but no luck.

Are a lot of other people experiencing heat issues?

Quite a few have, ya. It varies though, sometimes CPU, sometimes GPU. You might be the hottest GPU I've read in a while though... lol

That is quite hot for an Nvidia GPU man.

max temp for that card is 98C but to me 90C or higher is not good make sure the the fan and the heat sink on the crad are clean. also idle temp on that card should be around 30C

if the card is old and you know what you are doing you can try and replace thermal paste on heat sink when skyrim came out my 560TI was doing the same thing thermal paste fixed
BUT!!! if you do not know how to do this DON'T!!! do it you chould break the card

Ya it's pretty easy to rip off little capacitors and stuff if you don't do it right, so be careful.

But ya, re-pasting your GPU with some Arctic Cooling MX4 would probably work wonders for your temps....

Yes, it really is, and it is making me quite uncomfortable. :p I don't want to play with temps that high.

My idle temp is 30-35. I built the PC by myself, so I guess I could handle replacing the thermal paste. But is it worth the risk just to be able to play this game? I don't really think so.

Seems like I'm getting to use the refund policy for the first time, then. Thanks for your help. :)

Oh hell ya, if you can still get a replacement do that. They might even have to upgrade you man.

All I can say is that I would expect a 690 to be under extreme pressure playing this, which is what you are dealing with unfortunately. You are trying to play the most demanding game.

I'm getting temps >90C on *low*. That should not happen.

The GTX 690 is on-par with 2 GTX 770's in SLi.

2x GTX 770's in SLi can play TW3 at Med/High/Ultra (mixed), 1080p, and get around 60fps. (hairworks off obviously)

If he can figure out his temp problems he shouldn't be having these issues.

Yeah, you are correct. It shouldn't happen.

After researching, I've seen the 690 hit 88 degrees both CPU & GPU playing on high, that was paired with an i7, obviously yours is an i5. I'd expect yours to struggle, but it is a little bit odd that your temps reach that on low settings. Hrm.

Yes, it is very weird. I was looking forward to this game.
