locked doors and chests
Hey so during my adventures ive come across a lot of interesting locked doors. Ive actually seen cool buildings off in the distance and ran all the way to them only to find the door locked. So im wondering are there actually keys to these doors? or are they just locked because there is nothing inside? i cant seem to find keys anywhere

Sometimes someone will give you a key. But in general you need to be given the key or find it on a bandit. But no, they are locked and that is it. You can smash some doors

So youre saying every locked door has a key somewhere?

Not every generic locked door has a key. Same for TW1 and TW2

cool thanks. i have to say some of the coolest looking buildings are the ones that are locked. why go through so much trouble to make it interesting if there is nothing inside? anyway thanks for the answers.

So the fortress at Skellige is not cool? Nor some of the expensive aristocrat Villas in Novigrad? Nor the Baron's palisade?

There are houses with locked doors and some of them have open windows through which you can see that there are objects to interact with. I think some doors are parts of hidden sidequests and dlcs.

In my experience doors that can be interacted with and say "locked" all have a key
Generic fake doors don't even tell you that

I have never unlocked a merchant in distress. The key has never been there, ever!

well of course i do but i was just running around skellige and that one lighthouse around the southwest side of the main island is locked which is a pitty because the outside is fantastic. also in skellige is that one very tall tower on the island with the giant. walked all the over there to find it was beautifully detailed on the outside but once again locked with no key around.

that was one thing i loved about DA:I almost every building was enterable. if you wanted to find a key to some hidden door. it existed. it breaks immersion when you see an interesting door and know you can never get inside

A number of those locations are mission based, and require the key in your mission inventory. I'd imagine there are a few that lead nowhere, though.

Not making much sense here. Your definition of immersion is very weird.

with dragon age inquisition (which i do feel is the inferior game for the record) if a place looked cool you could always find a way in. it looked cool because they wanted you to go in there. the sense of exploration felt great. With witcher its sad knowing you can never get in a place. it automatically leads my mind to think how the developers only did half their job which takes me out of the story and the world. Thats just me though!
