Play this or Skyrim first with mods?
Hi all

So i have this game, played it for 2mins only walking onto the balcony at the start, on ultra (highest) settings i was amazed at the graphics as i just got a new rig. However I'm fearful that if i play it and later try to finish skyrim, I will find skyrims graphics and gameplay dull and boring even with all goodies that come from gameplay and graphics mods.

So to the people who have played both, should i finish the main storyline of skyrim with all the side quests I can manage first? Or is it ok to play the witcher 3 and it wont effect the way i see skyrim? In skyrim i got as far as my initial training with the grey warderns and been the archmage of winterhold from memory so I know there is alot im yet to do in skyrim. From the witcher 3 gameplay Ive seen, I play the same way in Skyrim sword and spells. I would hate to find the witcher 3 is so good it makes skyrim feel dull and boring. Hence finishing skyrim first.

They're different games. If you expect Skyrim to be the witcher, it'll be boring. If you expect the witcher to be skyrim, it'll be boring. Play either game and appreciate them for what each one is

they are indeed diffirent, keep in mind if u play thnis, you might be "busy" for the nexy 2 months because you WILL WANT to replay it, and on october there will be first expansion then you WILL WANT to play it and replay it, and each run is around 100-200 hours depends how much u put into exploration.

Witcher 3 is better.

The quests in Witcher 3 are a lot better than in Skyrim overall, especially the sidequests. Every quest feels unique and memorable. Don't get me wrong, Skyrim has some really good quests both main and side, a lot of unique ones, and some great epic moments, but it also has a lot of boring stuff and a lot of trekking through similar looking dungeons and a lot of running back and forth and fetching.

I like the combat better in Witcher3, but I've also always liked 3rd person better than first for fighting. Skyrim is more suited for 1st person combat and is kind of awkward at times in 3rd, it reminds of MMO's where you mostly just stand in front of enemies and swing your sword until they die then run around and cast a few spells.
The combat in Witcher is a lot more active and involved than Skyrim. In Skyrim you can pop a few potions, use a couple spells, and stand in place and tank hits from a dragon while you spam the same attack until you kill it. In Witcher you have to constantly evade attacks, parry, counter, dodge, use potions, use spells, use bombs, use arrows, remember enemies strengths and take advantage of their weaknesses every single time you fight. A few weaker enemies together are just as much a threat as the stronger ones. Even with all kinds of buffs if you were to stand still while fighting just one or two weaker enemies you'd die very quickly, that wouldn't happen in Skyrim.

Skyrim does do the skill system better than the Witcher 3 though in my opinion. Witcher 2's system was pretty good, but 3's is slow to level up and tries harder to lock you down to a certain style (combat/spells/alchemy). Skyrim lets you do whatever you want, the more you do it the better you get at it, has a lot more levels that you move through a lot faster meaning a lot more skills you can unlock and a lot more freedom in creating a character of your own.

I never actually finished the main quest line in Skyrim, despite having had played it for nearly 300 hours. There's a lot to do...and I mean a lot. I plan on getting it on PC once the Legendary hits 75%off so I can finish it with mods. It's definitely a good game and worth your time if you like RPG's.
I've got around 60 hours now in the Witcher3 and have no idea how far I am in it. I can tell you there's tons of ?'s on my map still, that I'm only level 26 yet already have some diagrams for equipment lvl40+. I've heard there's three Acts like there was in the last game, if that's true I've yet to see Act2.

Skyrim does a great job of letting you create your own unique character and experience.
Witcher does a great job of letting you experience Geralt's story.
Whichever game you pick expect to spend at least a hundred hours on it and probably never finish.

I can see what the OP is talking about here, I LOVE(D) Oblivion, and then I discovered The Witcher and I had a hard time looking back or getting into Skyrim for extended periods. Both are fantastic games in their own right but for open world, RPG, monster slaying badassery? TW3 wins. As a side note, they are very different beasts surely, but they have almost identical game features at the purest form, I.E. Alchemy, Melee Combat, Magic, Random Encounters, Large open worlds, too many quests, and good stories. But take heed they are NOT alike in gameplay.

like a comment above said: they`re different games. so no scare. and a properly modded skyrim on a good rig looks still nice in 2015.

Play Skyrim first because after you play The Witcher 3 you'll realize how pathetic and terrible Skyrim actually is.

Skyrim with mods offers the best first person dungeon crawling I've experienced anywhere. It also has true freedom, and it's own style of a believable world.

Witcher 3, so far, offers "what Dragon Age Inquisition should have been". It's world is very detailed and believable, but your interaction with it is far more quest/story driven, so in a way your interaction is limited vs skyrim's 'just do anything' mentality. But in exchange the writing and preformances are far better. Also, the combat mechanics are quite well thought out and action-y, compared to skyrim's awkward flailing.

Really, though, the order doesn't matter. One will suit your fancy more than the other, but both are worth your time. And skyrim with mods can easily compete with witcher for over-the-top visuals. Quite possibly it's prettier, if you're willing to put in the time and effort to make it so. And modding is a ton of fun.

They are both good games. They are both focusing on different things though. It is hard to explain. If you want a good story, Witcher wins hands down. If you want a more 'sandboxy' experience and don't care much for good stories, maybe Skyrim is more your game. But get both eventually. Personally, Witcher 3 is the better overall game.

They are so differnt games. You are not gonna lose anything if you play both, if you really like RPG, you will enjoy W3 and Skyrim.
Skyrim - 1279 hrs ( with 150+ mods), its was so different game from vanilla, was really fun thanks to Nexus mod community.
W3 - 379 hrs on the 2nd playthrough ( death march), but not gonna run the 3rd time until the new packs up. 2 times is enough.
Both are good.

Play neither.

Go run a marathon.

Play Skyrim first since this is basically superskyrim.

I'm having a problem completing skyrim and mine is modded a pretty good bit, now that I have witcher 3. I regret not finishing and starting witcher. don't make the same mistake. skyrim deserves my attention more, still put in 70 hrs or so.I easily get distracted

They are both very different RPGs, Skyrim is AMAZING for what it is, and TW3 is AMAZING for what it is, you could play either one first, but if I had to suggest one, I'd say play Skyrim first.

I am a little like you in that I have a hard time going back to older graphics right after playing a brand new gorgeous game, so do yourself a favor, experience ALL that Skyrim has to offer, and in a thousand hours come back to TW3. :D (TW3's not going anywhere...)

Neither is better than the other, that is literally impossible because they are different. Anyone who tells you that one is better, is giving you an opinion, which you need to take with a HEAPING pile of salt.
