Quest NPC's disappeared
So a while ago the Innkeeper at the Inn At The Crossroads disappeared before I could win their Gwent card, the quest marker was still there behind the bar but no character. I decided not to worry and just carried on but now I'm doing the quest "An Eye For An Eye" and I've reached the part where I need to meet Roche at the hanged mans tree, but he is not there, again the quest marker is there but nothing else.

How important is Roche and his questlines? Is there even any point carrying on? Any body else had this issue and have any suggestions? I've tried verifying the cache and all was good but did not help.

NPCs sometimes have schedules so sometimes you need to rest to get them to show up.
Or rather that you are at the correct place at the correct time.

However, I don't know that Roche has any kind of pattern.

Sounds like it might be a bug.
The innkeeper though I know for a fact you have to rest to get him to show up sometimes.

Roche is pretty important. Without going into spoilers, if you don't do that quest he can't help you later in the game, and I *think* if may also affect an important "political" storyline culminating in Reason of State. It wouldn't prevent you from finishing the game, but it's relevant. Never had an issue with him disappearing, but it happens often with innkeepers, who sometimes simply vanish - I just meditate for a few hours and they come back.

Is it possible that you have the quest A Deadly Plot (the one with Dijkstra) unlocked, but have yet to start it? That would prevent Roche from showing up near the tree until you meet Dijkstra at the Passiflora (the brothel).

Yes that is my exact situation! Aha I will try it out, thanks!

You are welcome - should solve the problem for you then.

It worked! A Deadly Plot is pretty short and actually finishes just a few steps from the Hanged Mans Tree and Roche was there waiting. Can't believe you figured that out, you're a legend. Thanks again.

Sometimes inkeepers can also be inaccessible if there are fist fights going on. I had to finish a few of them just to get to play gwent with the innkeeper. Kind of stupid :)

Again, you are welcome. I vaguely remembered being unable to find Roche at some point (albeit not during Eye for an Eye) and then meeting him again with Dijkstra.
