Please help me with slots in swords and armour.
How do you tell when you go to purchase a sword or armour piece how many slots it will have. I generally found it only has 1 slot available for a glyph. Can you add slots?

Also, do the glyphs that are slotted into that sword only work when that particular sword is unsheathed?

You should be able to see right away if a sword or armour has slots (not sure though). If not, you should see how many slots it has when you hover over it.

You can't add slots, but swords and armour can have up to 3 slots (I think less for boots, pants and gloves).

And glyphs are put into armor, while runes are put into swords, there's a difference.
Glyphs are always active because they're put into your armor. Runes on the other hand are only showing effect when you use the sword with that rune on it.

Ok.I think placing them in your silver sword would be the best, since really that is what the toughest mobs will be struck with.

You can "add" slots to the witcher gear, upgrading them to enhanced/superior/mastercraft
All the other gears are stuck with the initial number of slots

How do you enhance them?

You can only upgrade "... school" gear(Cat, Gryphon, Bear etc). Basically it is crafting recipe which takes lower tier item, some materials and gives you better version. You may find those recipes in treasure hunting quests, check traders and smiths for maps which begin them.
P.S. Upgraded item will keep inserted glyphs from item you use in crafting.
