DRM free ?
Hello, i am not sure if this post is illegal or not, but from what i read in the rules, i did not infringe any of them... so:

Can some one from steam convince me of the fact below ?

Game at steam $60 bucks - region locked.

Game at the LIGIT, and LEGAL "GOG" company is only $42 bucks and it is DRM free and can be played anywhere in the world.

Can some one convince me to buy the game here? or explain how come such differences are possible ?

PS i will buy the game later today no matter what :)

Have a great day people :)

It's DRM free. Period. Regardless of source.
wouldnt it still be region locked tough ?
The point here is that i travel alot, and i spent my my summer in one country and my school year in america

So i would have to buy 2 versions of the game :/

That's my understanding of it as well.

Region locked and DRM-free are not the same thing. A game can be DRM-free and still be region locked.

TW3 is both. DRM-free in that you do not require a third party software such as Galaxy (GoG's client) or Steam to run the game. It can also be run offline and does not require an active online connection to run.

But it is still region locked. If it is described as for a specific region, it will not work elsewhere. So yes, if you live in one country and frequently travel to another, you will need two copies of the game.

You are incorrect. It is region locked as in buying and activating the game on Steam. But once the game is active on your account, you can play the game with no region blocking. Maybe Steam client would stop someone from playing the game outside of the region, but you can play Witcher 3 withouth Steam client even running by just running the game from the Witcher3.exe file in the game directory, or course when running the game in that way Achievements will not earned.

Makes sense I guess. Because if it's not platform-restricted (running it outside of Steam or GoG's Galaxy thingy) how would it know what region you're in. Problems might arise however when you launch it through one of those at a later date though. Then the update process might freak out at the region-locking thing again.

Perhaps on Steam it might be an issue for updating if you are outside of your region, hard to say. But the GoG version is not region locked at all so that wouldn't be an issue even if you decide to use GoG Galaxy.

The only feature that Steam has and GoG doesn't and that is important to me is the Cloud for your game saves and screenshots.

There are the collectible cards on Steam too, but this isn't important for me.

An advantage for GoG is that you can install updates manually. So, if you don't want to update your game, you don't have to.

Other than that, there's no difference between them.

So, both have their merits. I like having my screenshots handy on Steam, so that's a win for me.
