Is it Just Me...
... or am I not alone in the opinion that the voice acting for Geralt's character SUCKS!

The rest of the voice actors aren't bad and some are actually good but Geralt?? He's just annoying with his deadpan, monotone never changing speaking pace.

One would think the producers could have found someone better to do the job.

There are several interviews on YT with Doug Cockle about how they chose the voice and how much work went into making it sound like a witcher.

I think Doug Cockle's performance is perfect for this character.

Check out the first Witcher, sometimes all Geralt says is "MMhMMM.MMMMMM.(Grunts for a yes)....
But I think his voice match him very much..

When they become Witchers, I'm sure it's said amongst other side effects or to what some believe:

"It is a common belief, even among Witchers themselves, that they have no capacity for emotion. This may be debatable - and rather relative, considering the rigors of their training and the dangers they face as a matter of course. Perhaps they have simply never had the time (or exposure to society) to develop or recognize the reactions to mundane experiences that most take for granted."

With this said, I get the impression that the team and Doug worked on meeting something like this in the middle and got the voice of Geralt to show such things as this and the many other things to come with it such as his experiences and his unusual anti-social ways sometimes due to the line of work he's in.

Or it could be in keeping with the very nature of witchers and how many transformations they have undergone. Just saying.

I actually thought of that and then discarded the idea because his partner (a very senior witcher) was an animated and fairly exuberant guy. He showed emotion. Geralt doesn't.

Maybe Geralt is an emotionless disconnected sociopath? Nah? If that was true why would the storyline include dialogue that allowed him to be human

Agreed, and I like all other voices of witchers. All fit their characters.

Geralt's is by far the best, anyone else agree?

I'm currently reading the book The Last Wish, and it makes perfect sense to me. So far, I think they've pretty much gotten every character right. Yeah, you could argue some semantics here and there, but I got the impression from the back story and the book that Geralt just comes off that way. The mutations and toxicity training has pretty much burned away every scrap of emotion he has, and maybe he wasn't all tthat talkative to begin with.

He's cold and calculating and he doesn't let very much flap him. He's as steady as a rock and confident, and he doesn't let his emotions get the better of him. Seems right to me and Doug does a superb job portraying Geralt.

Personally, I believe the voice of Geralt is just right. He needs to be somewhat unemotional because let's face it, Witchers aren't supposed to get very excited over the things they do and come in contact with. Geralt's voice conveys a matter-of-fact attitude doing both little things or getting into huge fights. He needs to be calm and in control and that's how he sounds most of the time. One main exception is when he yells "C'mon, blah blah" to monsters or badguys often while riding Roach thru the forest..

There are things that could be improved in Witcher-3 for sure. The voice acting is fine, if I was going to fix anything, I'd fix the quest bugs.

nah, the voice and acting is perfect. I can tell they put a lot of time and thought in how they wanted to portray that character and they did excellent work on it. I heard people say the same thing about John Reese on Persons of Interest, and I wouldn't want them to change a thing about his character.

Geralt states in the game that is lack of emotion is due to his mutation. That's why he's very stoic.

BTW, I am really sick of these threads that start with "is it only me" or "I am the only one". Just fk'n stop, you're not special in anyway to think something.

Hmmmm...

It seems then that it IS just me.

Or at least I'm part of a minority opinion group. :steamfacepalm:
