can a ps3 controller work well with this game?

ive used a ps3 controller for other steam games but im not sure if it will work with this game being that its next gen can someone who has tried it plz let me know thanks.

I know the PS4 controller is natively supported in this game, but I am not sure about the PS3 controller.
