Are Noonwraiths actually weaker at night?
Let me start off by saying that this is NOT a thread complaining about the difficulty of the first noonwraith fight in the "Devil by the well" quest, like the umpteen I've seen already. I read the bestiary, I understand to use Yrden or those bombs to corporealise it and specter oil for a bit of extra damage, I've beaten the wraith and I'm done with the quest. I also know that the wraith will show up during the day if you approach the well. That's not what this thread is about.

However, the game makes a bit of fuss about noonwraiths being weaker at night time. I wanted to know whether this was actually true or not so I did some testing. For reference, I'm playing on the "Death March!" difficulty setting.

First, I tested the wraiths damage against me. Coming at the quest at level 2, at 12 midnight I was being damaged for somewhere in the region of 650-750 damage per hit with no attempt to block or dodge, regardless of whether the wraith was corporeal or not. During the day I was hit for the same rough range of damage. I didn't report a noticeable increase in general. However, on one of the testing runs, the wraith at 12 noon, 6 a.m and 6 p.m seemed to be damaging me for somewhere in the mid-1000s. Not sure if this was a bug or not, and I was unable to replicate it again despite many reloads.

Next, I decided to test the wraith's defenses. I recorded damage of approximately 100 per hit, and killed the wraith in 14 hits on average. This recorded damage and approximate number of hits to kill the wraith was also unchanged regardless of whether I fought the wraith at noon, midnight or any time in between.

I also noted no change in behavior between fighting the wraith at night or during the day.

In short, it doesn't appear to me that fighting the noonwraith at night makes the fight any easier. I'm interested to find out if this is an isolated incident to the wraith in this quest. Can you even find noonwraiths at night later in the game? If so, are those wraiths actually weaker then vs their daytime encounters? Also, does anyone have any explanation for the strange bump in damage that I saw, and does anyone have any stats of their own that confirm or question mine?

TL,DR: It seems that no, noonwraiths are not weaker at night.

I don't think I've even seen them at night. Always thought it was meant to be that way (with only nightwraiths appearing at night).

I figured as much. Was only wondering since their entry says that:

"Contrary to popular belief, noonwraiths can also be encountered at night, but are much weaker then than during the day."

Makes sense that instead the game would just spawn nightwraiths then though,
