Still am not understanding dodge.....
Somehow its not working for me. I understand dodge is only active in combat. Do you have to hit ALT then WASD, or hit them together, or WASD then ALT, or does it even make a difference.

Double-tap a directional key instead :)

Just roll instead. Dodging is really only useful for countering Drowners when they use their lunge attack.

You should be able to dodge backwards by just hitting whatever dodge botton is on the Keyboard. I have no idea what it is as I use a 360 controller. All I have to do to dodge is hit B, if I want to dodge in a certain direction I hit B + aim the thumbstick in a direction. Should be a similar concept with the M&K.

Rolling pulls you much futher from an enemy as opposed to dodging. For example by dodging twice in a row against a fiend or chort, you can stay on their hind leg and are always in position to do a fast attack.

Rolling is a great tactic to use if you get surrounded by multiple enemies, or if a large foe (cyclops, golem) charges at you.

Hold dodge button and tap directions during combat, if this doean't make you dance like a witcher should then something is wrong at your end. (and to roll constantly is just wrong, rolling is for avoiding serious large threats and getting out when surrounded, dodging is for fighting humanoids and smaller monsters)

Note that there is a recharge delay in the invincibility frames for rolling/dodging. You shouldn't dodge immediately after an attack/sign/dodge or you will be vulnerable (of course if the enemy attack clips through your hitbox, which can often be avoided).

Using 'Dodge' is a life saver in Boxing matches, some of the fights are impossible to win unless you dodge (step back), followed immediately by a quick sidestep and then quickly throw two or three punches. Dodge is also useful with Drowner's. Neker's and Rotfiend's.

And humanoids. And wolves.
